Cavs ride big 3rd quarter
to conference win at LaVille
Culver scored 14 points in the third quarter to take a 28-12 advantage over host LaVille, and the Cavaliers held on for a 41-26 Northern State Conference win Friday.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Culver, while beleaguered LaVille finished the season winless.

Dragons drop Golden Eagles, 2-1 at Caston Regional semis

FULTON — Both teams struggled with the field width and the weather at the outset, but Argos adjusted a little quicker.
The Dragons scored a pair of goals in the 18th and 25th minutes and made them stand up despite some late pressure by Oak Hill for a 2-1 semifinal victory at the Class A Caston Boys Soccer Regional Thursday.
Fresh from its first sectional championship in a decade at the Culver Community Sectional Saturday, Argos moves on to face the winner of the late semifinal contest between Peru and West Lafayette in the regional championship Saturday at 7 p.m.

IHSAA names times, dates for volleyball sectionals

Sectional times and dates have been determined by the host schools for the 40th Annual IHSAA State Volleyball Tournament.
The sectional stage of the tournament begins next Tuesday, Oct. 18 and continues through Saturday, Oct. 22.
Listed below are the local schedules:

Thursday, Oct. 20
Match 1 — Hanover Central vs. Knox. 6 p.m. CST
Match 2 — Kankakee Valley vs. Calumet. 7:30 p.m. CST
Saturday, Oct. 22
Match 3 — Winner of Match 1 vs. Winner of Match 2. 11 a.m. CST
Match 4 — Rensselaer Central vs. Andrean. 12:30 p.m. CST

Plymouth downs Triton
Triton came on strong in the final set, but it was too little, too late against the visiting Lady Pilgrims as Plymouth handed the host Trojans a 25-5, 25-11, 25-23 defeat Thursday.

Lions, Glenn vie for NSC title in Week 9

The Northern State Conference is on the line as Class 2A No. 5 Bremen hosts Class 3A No. 9 John Glenn, while Plymouth’s players have something to prove as they travel to NorthWood, and Triton looks to keep its positive momentum rolling as it hosts Class 3A 10th-ranked Jimtown in the last week of the regular season.

Culver Academies win boys, girls CC sectionals

CULVER — Leopoldo Burguete came on strong at the finish to win the individual boys championship and lead Culver Military to its fourth straight team sectional championship, while Culver Girls Academy placed six runners in the top 15 to breeze to its eighth straight title at the Culver Academies Cross Country Sectionals Tuesday.

GREEN BAY, Wisc. — Culver Community graduate and longtime Whitewater High School wrestling coach Wendall Bean will be among five individuals inducted into the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Association George Martin Hall of Fame at the hall’s annual induction ceremony November 4.

Boys cross country
Runyan, Amor advance
John Glenn’s Lucas Runyan and LaVille’s Nicholas Amor both earned top 15 regional advancement places as the Falcons and the Lancers finished out their team seasons along with Bremen at the Riley Boys Cross Country Sectional Tuesday.
Runyan turned in a 17:16 for 11th place, while Amor came in in 17:28 for the final individual ticket out to Saturday’s Elkhart Central Regional.

Culver rallies past OD in 5

CULVER — With sectionals fast approaching, the Lady Cavaliers wanted to grab some momentum this week.
So far, so good.
Culver rallied back from a 2-1 deficit with wins in the fourth and fifth games to hand visiting Oregon-Davis a five-set defeat, 21-25, 25-19, 16-25, 25-13, 15-12, at home Monday.
“We’ve been needing a win. It’s been awhile, and the girls knew that they could do that,” said Culver Head Volleyball Coach Amanda Minix.

Bremen loses to New Prairie
Bremen fell in three-sets to Northern State Conference foe New Prairie 25-17, 25-7, 25-14 Monday.
Brooke Baker led the Lady Lions with a balanced nine kills, seven digs and four blocks. Cassie Sears also recorded four blocks, and Allie Shorter set 13 assists for Bremen, which slips to 10-18 and 3-4 in conference play.
