Girls track
Lady Lions slip to 0-2 with loss to Vikings
Bremen’s girls track team slipped to 0-2 on the season with its second loss in three days, an 84-47 defeat by visiting Fairfield at home Thursday.
The Lady Lions earned wins in four events at the meet as Sara Slabaugh won the 3200, Jenna Pfeiffer won the high jump, Sophie Brown won the pole vault, and Bremen’s 400 relay team of Shannon Miller, Vianca MonteDeoca, Jasmine Schaffer and Paige Weldy took top honors in their race.

Bremen track teams split with Marian

BREMEN — In the numbers game of track and field, the Lions’ depth, experience and young talent added up to a win in the boys meet, while the Lady Lions’ relative inexperience and lower numbers equalled a loss as Bremen hosted Marian in its home opener Tuesday night.
Bremen’s boys team won by a lopsided 97-35 margin in their second meet of the season, while the girls lost 70-57 in their season opener at home.

Lady Lions lose in five
Angie Dainelli led off the game with an inside-the-park home run to set the tone for Riley, and Bremen suffered a 14-0, five-inning rout in its opener at home Tuesday.
Riley started fast with five runs in the first frame, then tacked on three more in the next two innings.
All total, the visiting Wildcats cranked out 13 hits, while the Lady Lions managed just two by Saylor Bailey and Allison Shorter against Riley hurler Jackie Logsdon.
Bailey was credited with the loss inside the circle for the Lions relieving Lexi Pate in the second.

Plymouth’s Mack Mercer was given two honors last week as he was named to the IBCA’s Underclass All-State Honorable Mention list and was invited to play in the 2012 Michiana McDonald’s High School All-Star Game tonight at Bethel College.

LaVille’s Jesse Feitz was recently named to the IBCA’s All-State Honorable Mention list after averaging more than 13 points per game in her senior season with the Lady Lancers.

Belles go 1-1
The Saint Mary’s tennis team was defeated by an 8-1 margin by regionally-ranked Wheaton before bouncing back with a 7-2 win over Judson at the Centre Court Athletic Club Saturday.
Plymouth alum Shannon Elliott earned a 6-1, 6-4 straight set win at No. 3 singles against Judson, and she combined with Audrey Kiefer for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles in the match.
Elliott finished the week a combined 8-2 in singles and doubles play.

Triton junior Yeo is first team all-state

BOURBON — Triton junior Clay Yeo was named Friday to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association’s Underclass All-State first team.
Yeo was one of just 15 underclassmen in the state to receive the honor after an outstanding junior season in which he set three program scoring records — the single-game record with 44 points against Rochester Feb. 14, the single season record with 675 points, and the career scoring record with 1,335.

Plymouth’s Mercer, Triton’s Yeo picked for Michiana All-Star game

MISHAWAKA — The 2012 Michiana McDonald’s High School All-Star rosters were announced Thursday in preparation for the event taking place Monday at 7 p.m. on the campus of Bethel College.
Plymouth sophomore center Mack Mercer, Triton junior forward Clay Yeo, and North Judson seniors John Eckert and Winston Yergler have all been selected to play in the all-star game.

The Lady Cats unseated the Cavaliers — who had ended a string of four straight sectional championships by OD the previous year — on their way to the title on their home floor.

Area players honored as Academic All-State

INDIANAPOLIS — Two Plymouth High School boys basketball players and one Bremen player were named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association’s annual Academic All-State Honorable Mention list.
Plymouth seniors Ryan McNeil and John Ruff and Bremen senior Mitch Huppert were all given the IBCA distinction Monday, while North Judson’s John Eckert was named to the first team list.
In all, 57 seniors across the state were chosen for first team Academic All-State honors, while an additional 146 boys and 148 girls were selected for the honorable mention distinction.
