Argos falls 3-1 to South Central at Culver Sectional

CULVER — Argos’ baseball team experienced little trouble piling up baserunners against South Central Wednesday.
Pushing them across the plate proved an entirely different matter.
The Dragons stranded 11 runners — five in scoring position — and dropped a 3-1 Class A Sectional 51 first-round tilt to the Satellites at Culver Community.
Play resumes today with the hosts taking on Westville at 5:30 p.m.

CGA wins regional
Culver Girls Academy won its first girls tennis regional championship since 2007 with a 4-1 defeat of Warsaw at the Lady Eagles’ home regional at the Gable Tennis Complex Wednesday.
Culver now advances to the LaPorte Semistate to face Penn Saturday at 10 a.m.
CGA won on all three singles courts as Sonia Shen beat Sarah Hartle 6-4, 6-3 in 1 singles play, Natalia Lopez-Yanez handed Jacqueline Sasso a 6-1, 6-0 defeat at 2 singles, and Paulina Cano trumped Sarah Boyle in a 7-1 second-set tiebreaker for a 6-1, 7-6 (1) victory at 3 singles.

Triton’s Yeo, CGA’s Cvitkovic selected for Indiana-Kentucky Junior All-Star game

Triton’s Clay Yeo and Culver Girls Academy’s Andrijana Cvitkovic have been invited to play for the junior north teams in the first-ever Junior All-Star games of the annual Indiana-Kentucky All-Stars basketball series.

WARSAW — Leah Heckaman gave herself a bit of a scare Tuesday night.
Coming into the discus finals at the Warsaw Girls Track and Field Sectional, the Culver Girls Academy sophomore’s best throw of the night was only good enough for fourth place, one shy of state qualification.
Luckily for her, she saved her best for last.

LAKEVILLE — The old saying holds that the third time’s the charm.
Plymouth couldn’t argue with that Tuesday.
Marissa Sullivan and battery mate Emilee Keilman both cranked out two-run homers in Plymouth’s third time through the order, and the Lady Pilgrims used a four-run fifth to snap a 0-0 stalemate en route to a 6-2 defeat of John Glenn in Class 3A St. Joseph’s Softball Sectional action at Newton Park.
Plymouth advances to the semifinals to play Jimtown tonight at 7 p.m. following a game between host St. Joe and Culver Girls Academy.

CGA advances, Plymouth bows out at tennis regional
Culver Girls Academy advanced to the championship of its home tennis regional with a 5-0 win over Manchester, while Plymouth bowed out of the state tournament with a close 3-2 defeat at the hands of Northern Lakes Conference rival Warsaw at the CGA Girls Tennis Regional Tuesday.
CGA and Warsaw will face off in the tournament’s final tonight at 5:15 p.m.

Bremen beats LaVille at Westview

TOPEKA — Even after its last conference win over LaVille, Bremen wasn’t getting ahead of itself in its sectional opener.
The Lady Lions’ plan was simply to get on top and stay there, and they executed that game plan to perfection Monday.
Bremen battled back from an early 1-0 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the first, then tacked on another two in the third for a 4-1 cushion en route to a 7-2 tournament-opening victory at the Class 2A Westview Sectional.

Pilgrims pass pre-sectional check-up with 10-0 win vs Knox

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth baseball team had its final check-up of the regular season before starting sectionals on Thursday.
Everything checked out okay.
The Pilgrims cranked out 10 runs on 12 hits and had an errorless game behind a solid pitching performance by Jordan Scheetz in a 10-0, five-inning victory over the Knox Redskins.
