Woolfington legacy grows with 4th annual golf outing

June 21, 2012

PLYMOUTH — A simple promise made to a friend has grown into an opportunity for many as the legacy of Craig Woolfington lives on in his hometown.
Several years ago Woolfington died suddenly and tragically of cancer. Mark Lindsey made a promise to his friend that he would be sure that Woolfington’s daughter Kate would attend college. Along with another close friend of Woolfington’s, Tony Plothow, the pair have done their best the past few years to raise money for that cause.
They’ve done so well that they have expanded their friend’s legacy to help many other people.

First-year addition to the coaching staff Will Shepard was happy with the team’s performance in the later innings.

Post 27 feeling fatigue in loss

June 19, 2012

FORT WAYNE — Plymouth Post 27 played its sixth game in five days, and some fatigue may have shown in its 9-5 loss to the Ohio River Bandits in Fort Wayne’s Parkview Stadium Monday.
Plymouth jumped out to an early lead in the first.
Brock Anson led off the game with a walk. James Hackworth sacrificed him to second, and Brody Andrews doubled down the left field line to score Anson. Brody scored a moment later when brother Tanner singled to put the Diamond Spyders up 2-0.

Stewart, Sprints on Dirt rained out at Plymouth Speedway

June 18, 2012

PLYMOUTH — NASCAR champ Tony Stewart arrived for a much-anticipated Sprints On Dirt race Saturday at Plymouth Speedway — just in time to watch showers move in and postpone the event.
Stewart, who flew in to the Plymouth Airport after a mandatory practice at Michigan International Speedway was called for 6 p.m. in Brooklyn, Mich., was as disappointed as his fans in the nearly sold-out crowd that Mother Nature was not cooperating with the track’s planned events.

Kentucky took an early lead, but Indiana rebounded to seize a 63-57 advantage at intermission of the game with two 20-minute halves.
