Yeo, Indiana Junior All-Stars top Kentucky

INDIANAPOLIS — Triton’s Clay Yeo scored 12 points as one of six Indiana Junior All-Stars in double figures as the Hoosiers beat Kentucky 126-103 at Heritage Christian School Friday night.
Also from the area, Penn’s Leo Svete finished with 10 points in the win as both Indiana’s boys and girls junior teams topped their Kentucky counterparts.
The Hoosier boys converted 13 3-pointers and made 19-of-22 free throws in the comfortable decision.
Kentucky took an early lead, but Indiana rebounded to seize a 63-57 advantage at intermission of the game with two 20-minute halves.

Post 27 finishes 3rd at Terre Haute tourney
Plymouth Post 27 dimed Bristol Post 243 in five innings, 17-3 Sunday after splitting a doubleheader with Lafayette Post 11 and Evansville Post 265 to finish third at the Terre Haute Amercian Legion Tournament.
Post 27 took advantage of 11 walks and five errors and collected 10 hits en route to the victory Sunday.

Duncan steps up as new Lady Pilgrims head coach

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth girls basketball may have a new head coach next season, but the man now serving at the helm of the program is hardly a new face.
PHS made it official Friday as it announced that longtime Lady Pilgrims assistant coach Dave Duncan would take over for 20-year skipper Dave Cox beginning in the 2012-13 season.

Four Trojans selected for Indiana Elite All-Star baseball games

BOURBON — Four Triton baseball players have been selected to play in the Indiana Elite All-Star games Saturday, June 23 at Decatur Central High School in Indianapolis. 
Trojans Bryson Mosier and Pete Kauffman will play in the Class A junior game scheduled for 10 a.m. EDT, while Zak Shively and Marc Lindsey will compete in the 1A seniors game slated for 12:30 p.m. EDT at the event, which is broken down according to class and school year and is in its second year.

Calhoun named new LaVille head boys soccer coach

LAKEVILLE — A recent Argos alum will take the reins of LaVille’s boys soccer program, the school announced Friday.
LaVille High School announced the hiring of Adam Calhoun, a 2009 graduate of Argos High School, as new head boys soccer coach.
Calhoun played four years varsity soccer at Argos as a midfielder and defender. He also played goalie at Ancilla College, where he served as team captain and on the Ancilla College Athletic Committee. He holds three goal-keeping records at Ancilla — shutouts in a season, goals against average and shutouts in a career.

Alex Banfich named to Capital One Academic All-District Track & Field Team

PRINCETON, N.J. — Plymouth native and recent Princeton graduate Alex Banfich has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Track & Field Team, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Banfich is a four-time All-America on the Princeton women’s cross country and women’s track teams. She placed fifth at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championship, the highest finish by a Tiger at the NCAAs in program history.

Post 27 wins Terre Haute tourney opener
Plymouth Post 27 won its opener at the Terre Haute Tournament Thursday, scoring three runs in the third and tacking on another two in the seventh for a 5-3 victory over Terre Haute Post 346.
After starting out the game with six straight strike outs, the Diamond Spyder offense woke up in the top half of the third, scoring three runs on a pair of Post 346 errors and a double by Eric Knepper of Bremen.

Ancilla hosts 17th annual golf tourney

DONALDSON — The 17th annual Ancilla College Golf Tournament teed off on Monday at the Plymouth Country Club, with 40 teams taking part in the festivities to help raise money for the school.
The tournament, which followed a four-person Florida scramble format, raised over $21,000 for the Annual Fund. Funds received are pledged to support student grants and scholarships.

Shook and German named All-State HM

Plymouth’s No. 1 doubles tandem of Andria Shook, left, and Marissa German, right, were recently named to the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association’s All-State Honorable Mention list.
Shook and German finished their season with an 18-6 record, were named to the All-Northern Lakes Conference Honorable Mention list, the all-district team and finished runners-up at the LaPorte Regional in the IHSAA’s 22nd Annual Doubles State Tournament.

Post 27 moves to 3-0 vs Crown Point

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Post 27 Diamond Spyders picked up another win last night to run its season-opening win streak to three games with a 5-3 decision over Crown Point Post 20.
The Diamond Spyders used a big first inning to get the job done, plating all five of their runs in the first and holding on for the win at home at Bill Nixon Field.
“We looked good offensively in the first inning,” said Plymouth coach Tony Plothow. “It looked like we lost focus at the plate in the later part of the game, and we can’t have that against some of the other teams that we will face this year.”
