PLYMOUTH — It could have been worse.
After a disastrous five-run open, Plymouth’s Pilgrims could have had a very long Saturday evening indeed. But fighting back, they gave themselves a chance to win before finally falling to South Bend Washington 8-4 at Bill Nixon Field.
Washington hit the Pilgrims early and often, putting up five and batting 12 players in the very first inning.

Lady Pilgrims earn 1st win
The Plymouth Lady Pilgrims earned their first win of the season in their home-opener on Friday, 8-2 over Tippecanoe Valley.
The game was originally scheduled to play at Tippy Valley but was moved to Centennial Park because of weather conditions. The Pilgrims remained the visiting team on the scoreboard, and Morgan O’Neal started the game with a single and two stolen bases on ensuing pitches. She scored in the top of the first, and the Lady Pilgrims never looked back.

BREMEN — Two different approaches to battling the elements turned out the better for Plymouth’s Pilgrims as they were able to hold on to a 12-10 win over Bremen in a Friday night high school baseball game that was shortened to six innings due to darkness.
The Lions played small ball, taking advantage of savvy baserunning and forcing the issue with the Plymouth defense. The Pilgrims chose to batter away, belting out some timely hits with some power.

The Plymouth High School girls basketball team held its season-ending banquet on Wednesday.
From left to right: senior Amber Redinger received the Best Rebounder Award; sophomore Haley Harrell received the Best Free Throw Percentage Award and the best 3-point Field Goal Percentage Award; senior Lauren Tanner received the Most Assists Award; sophomore Allie Wright received the Most Steals Award and the Best Field Goal Percentage Award; and senior Andria Shook received the Best Free Throw Percentage Award.

Eagles shoot down Forest Hills
Riley Thompson had a hat trick by the 7:56 mark of the first period, and the Culver Military Academy prep boys lacrosse team dominated Forest Hills 24-1 at home Friday night.
Thompson scored four goals in the first period and went on to finish the game with six goals and an assist as one of four Eagles with a hat trick in the rout.
Zach Currier scored four goals with four assists, Joel Tinney scored three times with an assist, and Colin Courtney had an old-fashioned hat trick with three straight scores in the final period.

Weather continues to play havoc with area events; a look at some reschedulings

Rain, rain, go away.
Persistent precipitation and cold weather have forced cancellations and postponements to area athletic events throughout the week, and the wet conditions continued to play havoc with area schedules Thursday night.
While most rain-outs have yet to be rescheduled, here’s a look at a few events that have, weather permitting.

• The three-way track meet between Bremen, John Glenn and LaVille at LaVille scheduled for Thursday night has been postponed to Monday.

• Bremen’s softball game at Mishawaka, originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been rescheduled for today.

Plymouth’s CeCe Robinson was recently awarded the Indiana Soccer League (ISL) Golden Glove Award.
Robinson is a member of the Plymouth United FC U13 Team. The Golden Glove Award is presented to the division goalie with the fewest goals allowed. Award-winners must participate in a majority of the games for their team.

CMA opens dual season with 2 wins
Culver Military Academy’s boys golf team braved the sloppy conditions as the Eagles opened their dual meet season with wins over both Tippecanoe Valley and Rochester at Mystic Hills in Culver Thursday.
John Connelly fired a 1-under 34 to lead CMA, followed by Davis Payne’s 39 and Zach Allyn’s 40. Ben Sharff rounded out the team score with a 41 as the Eagles posted a 154 to top Tippy Valley’s 173 and Rochester’s 188.
Tippy Valley was led by Bryce Zimmerman’s 38, and Luke Kennedy shot a 44 for Rochester.
