Uceny stomps at Blueberry 5K

September 2, 2014

PLYMOUTH – Morgan Uceny was looking for some blueberry donuts. Wasn’t everybody?
But on her way to Centennial Park, Plymouth’s native Olympian took a quick detour down Michigan Street.
It was so quick, in fact, that Uceny ended up winning Monday’s Blueberry Stomp 5,000-meter run.
Thousands of spectators, who were awaiting the start of the Blueberry Festival parade, did a double-take. Then they roared as Uceny – a finalist in the women’s 1,500 meter run during the 2012 Olympics -- surged the last mile of the course.

Post 27 stays alive at state

July 31, 2014

PLYMOUTH — The Diamond Spyders may be too young to remember disco, but even they could appreciate a certain BeeGees classic Wednesday afternoon.
Staying alive is just what they did.
Plymouth Post 27 rallied back from a seven-run deficit to hand Mishawaka Post 161 an 8-7 defeat, surviving to play another day at the American Legion State Baseball Tournament at Bill Nixon Field.

Walk-off homer beats Post 27 in opening round of state finals

July 30, 2014

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth Post 27 looked to be cruising to an opening-round victory over Kokomo Post 6 in the American Legion state finals, but suffered a gut-wrenching 9-7 loss Monday night thanks to a walk-off two-run homer.
Post 27 entered the final frame holding on to a 7-5 lead as pitcher Clayton Adamson looked to record the save.

Post 27 ousted in regional

July 25, 2014

PLYMOUTH – Plymouth Post 27’s appearance in the regional was short-lived.
On Thursday, Bristol bounced the Diamond Spyders from the tournament with a convincing 11-6 victory at Bill Nixon Field.
Post 27 had fits trying to figure out Bristol starting pitcher Jake Tucker.
Tucker allowed just three runs on five hits over eight innings as the Diamond Spyders never had more than one hit when he was on the mound.
“I thought we came out kind of flat and they came out and did a nice job hitting the ball,” Post 27 manager Will Hostrawser said.
