From deep in the heart of Texas one day to deep in the bowels of New Mexico the next.
Day 2 started with a winding journey — 75 stories underground — through the Big Room of Carlsbad Caverns. Pretty overwhelming stuff. The first guy to say, “Hey, let’s have a look in there,” before the nice lighting, well-marked paths, audio guides and all, was either unbelievably gutsy or irredeemably foolish.
Considering that people today flock to have their own look, I’m going with the former.
Taking a Dee-tour
Pilot photo/Dee Grenert
Pilot News staffer Dee Grenert saw much of the Wild, Wild West on a vacation last week. We’ve asked Dee to blog about her sight-seeing adventure.

Let’s go to Luckenbach, Texas... No, Waylon (God rest his soul) and Willie weren't there, but the boys — or at least some who would like to be the boys — were. Free live outlaw music and the scenic drive through Texas hill country made for a perfect start to a vacation, even if the rental car wasn’t all-American like the sights here.
