PLYMOUTH â€”Â Betty Jean (Wilson) Heiden, 71, passed away in Millerâ€™s Merry Manor in Plymouth, at 3:55 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2012.
Born in Plymouth April 8, 1940, Betty was the daughter of Donald S. and Mary C. (Richard) Splix.
A lifetime Plymouth resident, she was raised in the Roman Catholic faith and graduated from Plymouth High School.Â
Betty was first married to William D. Wilson. She then married Carl F. Heiden June 25, 1983 in Plymouth. Carl died Nov. 26, 1996.
Betty, a homemaker, was also a teacherâ€™s aide at Washington School.

NAPPANEE â€”Â James L. Slabaugh, 63, of 402 Northwood Circle, Nappanee, died at 1:02 p.m., Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 at Lakeland Loving Care Center, Milford after an extended illness.
Surviving are his daughter, Tammy Jo (Terry Witcher) Francis, Bristol; his mother, June L. Slabaugh, Nappanee; four grandchildren; and brothers, Russell Dean (Peggy) Slabaugh, Lake Zurich, Ill., Steve Slabaugh, Nappanee, and Michael (Shirley) Slabaugh, Hindman, Ky.
TOPEKA â€” Bremen found its best scoring balance of the season, and the Lady Lions found a way to win down the stretch.
Senior forward Jenna Pfeiffer put up a team-high 17 points coming off an IBCA/ Pacers-Fever Player of the Week selection, sophomore point guard Sara Slabaugh finished with 11, and senior combo player Kailee Feldman chipped in 10 points to go with eight rebounds as the Lions closed out the game on a 12-5 run to unseat host Westview 51-45 in the Class 2A Sectional 35 opener Tuesday.
HAMLET â€” Argosâ€™ girls basketball team opened pregame warm-ups and broke the pre-tipoff huddle with one word â€” intensity.
The Dragons promptly fired off a 25-4 game-opening spree and led by double figures the rest of the way in a 60-36 Class A Sectional 51 first-round win over South Central at Oregon-Davis Tuesday.
Argos returns to The Den Friday for a semifinal tussle with defending champion Triton at 6:30 p.m. First-round play continues tonight with host OD taking on Culver Community at 6:30 p.m. with Marquette and Westville to follow.
Holmquest closes career at Mishawaka Regional
Plymouth senior Alayna Holmquest closed out her high school career with a disappointing 15th-place finish at the Mishawaka Girls Diving Regional Tuesday.
Holmquest scored a 214.3 to fall short of a top eight finish and state berth at the meet.
Khalela El-Naggar of Valparaiso won the competition with a score of 411.6.
Holmquest advanced to the Mishawaka Regional after finishing second at the Warsaw Sectional Saturday with a score of 274.1.

ETNA GREEN â€”Â Harold â€śHarâ€ť Feldman, 83, of Etna Green, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 at 1:50 p.m. at Bremen Health Care Center after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; a son, Carl (Debra) Feldman of Etna Green; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the Summit Chapel Cemetery at Bourbon.

PLYMOUTH â€”Â Larry G. Harrell, 52, of 1st Road, Plymouth, passed away at 7:08 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, following a brief illness.Â
Larry was born Dec. 12, 1959, in Plymouth, to Frank and Patricia (Kamiski) Harrell. Larry had been a lifetime resident of the Plymouth area. He was the owner of Larryâ€™s Body Shop and was a true craftsman at his job of repairing, painting, and doing body work on automobiles.

PLYMOUTH â€”Â Gerald James Thomas, 100, passed away at 1:06 a.m. in Pilgrim Manor Friday morning, Feb. 3, 2012.
Born in Plymouth April 17, 1911, Gerald was the son of William Arthur and Viola Belle Berger Thomas.
A lifetime resident of Marshall County, Gerald graduated from Bourbon High School with the class of 1931. In 1940, he joined the Army Air Force and served his country through WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

Survivors include two daughters, Letitia Czarnecki of Hanna and Jennifer Czarnecki of Knox; four grandchildren; her parents, Wendell and Letitia Oberlin andÂ two sisters, Sherri Johnson and Wendy Warner.
