INDIANAPOLIS â€” Triton sophomore Clay Yeo, Park Tudor freshman Trevon Bluiett and Washington senior Cody Zeller are the IBCA/Pacers-Fever Players of the Week for the week of March 21-26.
Bluiett and Zeller were named winners after leading their teams to respective Class 2A and Class 3A state championships, while Yeo is a recipient after helping Triton to a Class A runner-up finish. The citation was Zellerâ€™s fourth this season.
MADISON â€” Janaâ€™s Gymnastics competed in the Indiana USA Gymnastics State Meet at Madison High School over the weekend and came home with some impressive places.Â
Zailey Hess won the All-Around championship in her age group for Janaâ€™s Bronze Team, which earned narrowly missed a team championship by less than half a point to finish runner-up at the meet, while Janaâ€™s Silver Team earned a fifth-place finish in its division.
The committee behind Culver's B.I.R.D. (Building, Inspiring, Recreating, and Discovering) is planning a one-day return of the successful service event it sponsored locally last summer. Scheduled for Saturday, April 23, the student-led service day combines the efforts of students from Culver Academies and Culver Community High School, as well as adults from both areas and beyond, to assist anyone in the community with work projects with which they need assistance (last year's efforts ranged from cleanup jobs to painting or repairing houses).
INDIANAPOLIS â€” Not satisfied with ending a 36-year sectional championship drought, the Eagles kept on rolling to eventual regional and semistate titles.
On Saturday, their historic run came to an end as defending state champion Washington handed Culver Military Academy a 61-46 loss in the Class 3A State Basketball Final at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
INDIANAPOLIS â€” Indianapolis Metropolitanâ€™s boys basketball team answered every Triton challenge.
From the No. 2 Trojansâ€™ 12-3 game-opening run right through to Triton senior Griffyn Carpenterâ€™s triple with 5 seconds left, the unranked Pumas responded with defense, big buckets, key offensive rebounds and clutch free throws to down Triton, 59-55 in the Class A state final at Conseco Fieldhouse Saturday.
INDIANAPOLIS â€” While the Triton Trojans came up short in their goal of a second state title and Marshall County teams went 0 for 2 at the IHSAA State Basketball Championships, senior guard Jordan Everett earned himself a nice consolation prize with the 2011 Class A Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude Award Saturday at Conseco Fieldhouse.
â€śItâ€™s a very prestigious award, and itâ€™s an honor,â€ť said Everett, who is ranked third in his class and plans to study engineering at the University of Louisville next fall.
LAPAZ â€”Â Women's Connection will be hosting a "How Sweet It Is!" banquet Wednesday, April 6 at 11:30 a.m. in the Occasion's Banquet Hall, LaPaz. The cost is $8.50 and includes the meal and program. PLYMOUTH â€” The Delta Theta Tau Sorority will be hosting its fifth annual fundraiser Saturday, April 2 in the Knights of Columbus Hall, Columbus Drive, Plymouth. Doors open for this "Hollywood" Trivia Night at 5:30 p.m. and the game curtain rises at 7 p.m. Teams will work together to answer 100 trivia questions throughout the night. CULVER â€”Â Culver Community Schools Kindergarten Roundup for those students in the Monterey Elementary attendance district will be held Tuesday, April 5 at 6 p.m. in the Monterey Elementary School cafeteria. Roundup for those students in the Culver Elementary attendance district will be held Wednesday, April 6 at 6 p.m. in the Culver Elementary School cafeteria. To be eligible for kindergarten a child must be five years old on or before Aug. 1, 2011. Children do not need to attend this informational meeting for parents.
INDIANAPOLIS â€” Both Class A Triton and Class 3A Culver Military fell short of a state championship at the 101st IHSAA State Basketball finals Saturday at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The Trojans fell 59-55 in a close battle with Indianapolis Metropolitan, while the Eagles lost to repeat Class 3A champion Washington, 61-46.
