Randy Davis is MAC West Player of the Week

MUNCIE — Plymouth High School alum and Ball State senior guard Randy Davis has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
This is the third time in his career that Davis has been honored by the MAC and the first this season.
Davis led the Cardinals to back-to-back road wins last week with victories at Central Michigan and Northern Illinois. His all-around play was a catalyst for the Cardinals as he averaged 9.0 points, 8.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game as Ball State improved to 4-1 in MAC play.

Trojans advance, Lions falter at boys Bi-County semifinals

LAKEVILLE — Triton earned a chance to play for its third straight Bi-County Championship with a victory over John Glenn, while New Prairie earned a berth opposite the Trojans for a bid at its first championship in 39 years with a win over Bremen in the semifinals at the 47th annual tourney at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium Saturday.

Girls Bi-County championship rematch set with OD, Culver wins

LAKEVILLE — Here comes Bi-County Girls Basketball Tournament rematch time for Oregon-Davis and Culver Community.
Class A No. 4 Oregon-Davis rode an outstanding defensive effort to a 54-35 semifinal-round victory Saturday morning at LaVille’s Dale E. Cox Gymnasium, while defending tourney champion Culver made a quick start stand up in a 55-43 win over the host Lancers in the second semifinal.

Snowmobile accident lands Bremen man in jail for drunk driving

LAKEVILLE — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a personal injury accident involving an intoxicated snowmobiler. Chase Walleske, 29, of Bremen was arrested Sunday evening by Indiana Conservation Officer Mark Richter after Walleske crashed his snowmobile into a concrete barrier on the new US 31 bypass just south of Pierce Road in St. Joseph County. Walleske was riding with a friend at approximately 7 p.m. when he failed to negotiate his snowmobile around the barrier.

Downtown Plymouth wi-fi now available

PLYMOUTH — After months of planning, downtown Plymouth, businesses and residents are now able to connect to a free Wi-Fi service within the business district.
Friday, Mayor Mark Senter, Marshall County Economic Development Director Jennifer Laurent, and PIDCO (Plymouth Industrial Development Corporation) representative Mark Gidley held a short press conference at Java Trail where they demonstrated the new service.
In 2011, several stakeholders contracted with DC Tech Solutions, a local Plymouth based IT firm, to deploy WiFi connectivity to most of the downtown in a few short months.

OD grad cheers with Purdue at national championship

HAMLET — Oregon-Davis grad and current Purdue sophomore Kelsey Minix recently returned from the 2012 UCA College Cheerleading national championship at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. Minix, who competed in Florida her junior and senior year of high school and her freshman year of college at Indiana University Bloomington, said that this year's event was especially challenging as it was her first time competing on a coed team.
"We were in Division I, and it was the hardest division down there," said Minix. "I wasn't used to going up against so many other schools on a coed team."

Bittersweet home match: Goodbye seniors, goodbye pool

PLYMOUTH — Thurs-day night marked the end of swim competition in the Plymouth High School pool. After more than 35 years of use, the pool has become in disrepair and is scheduled to be closed forever.
Head Swim Coach Leanne Senter said, “Tonight’s meet will be bittersweet,” adding she has been coaching swim teams for 10 years and is in her seventh year as the head coach, and fourth as diving coach. “I’ve seen a lot of kids grow up in this pool and it’s just like home to us.”

CULVER — Henry Lee Willhite Sr., 79, of Culver died Monday, Jan. 15, 2012 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Willhite of Culver; sons, Michael Lee Willhite of Culver, Henry Lee Willhite Jr. of Culver; brothers, Lawrence Willhite of Milwaukee, Wis., Roosevelt Willhite of Eldorado, Ark.; sister, Pearlie Mae Price of Milwaukee, Wis.; and one grandchild.
