PLYMOUTH — Work has begun, but 13th Road will be closed until spring as the county puts in a new bridge on the road.
Jeff Million — project engineer from DLZ — told the Marshall County Commissioners that the section of 13th Road near the bridge officially closed to traffic Oct. 12 and will remain closed until the new bridge is complete, a scheduled date of June 30 of next year. Crews officially have until July 13 to finish the project.
PLYMOUTH — Lincoln Highway will open once again on Saturday — but motorists would be advised to proceed with caution.
Crews have had the road shut down to work on the new Pioneer Drive that will connect S.R. 17 with U.S. 30 and crosses Lincoln Highway. At the point the roads intersect will be a new four-way stop, and motorists are being advised to be aware of the new stop.
Signs will be placed in the area to warn of the upcoming stop. While Pioneer is not yet open for crossing traffic, drivers on Lincoln Highway will still be stopping in the interim.
PLYMOUTH — Plymouth High School senior Erin Kinney's golf season may have ended at regionals back in September, but the accolades keep coming.
Kinney was named Honorable Mention Academic All-State last week following a strong senior season in which she led the Lady Pilgrims to an East Noble Regional berth, put up a new 18-hole scoring record for Plymouth at even-par 72, was named team MVP and claimed a third straight All-Northern Lakes Conference distinction.

PLYMOUTH — The Pride of Plymouth’s trip to the state finals in Indianapolis Saturday stirred a lot of interest and pride in the community. The band had made it to the semi-state level for two of the last three years, but this was their first trip to the finals.
Out of the 10 bands competing in its class, the Plymouth band of 117 members ranked fifth.
Director Bryan Ames said Plymouth was the only first-time band competing.
LAKEVILLE — Cell phone use in class is typically a no-no, but the rule is being temporarily relaxed at LaVille Jr./Sr. High School.
At the beginning of the school year, Union-North Technology Director Mike Sumpter set up a teachers’ poll in which votes were cast via cell phone through www.polleverywhere.com. To get LaVille students involved in the election process, the same setup is being used so they can vote on the Joe Donnelly/Jackie Walorski Congressional and Dan Coats/Brad Ellsworth Senate races. The results will show who would win if the student body was the total electorate.

WAKARUSA — Walter H. Martin, 72, Wakarusa, died at 10:49 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at Elkhart General Hospital.
PLYMOUTH — Both Knox and NorthWood finished out spectacular volleyball seasons with tough, three-game losses to No. 3 Yorktown and No. 11 Bellmont at the Plymouth Semistate Saturday.
NorthWood closed out its Regional 10 championship season at 28-10 with its loss to eventual semistate champ Bellmont, while Knox finished out a banner season which included the program’s first-ever regional title with a loss to Yorktown.

TERRE HAUTE — Culver Girls Academy’s Waverly Neer edged out Bloomington South’s Nicole Lucas by .7 of a second to win the 30th annual Girls State Cross Country Championship at the Wabash Valley Sports Center in Terre Haute Saturday.
Neer’s 18:17.5 time earned her a clean sweep of state tournament championships after winning individual titles at both the Culver Academies Sectional and Regional, and her record-breaking 17:53.9 at the New Prairie Semistate last weekend followed up another meet-record finish at regional October 16.
