LaVille graduate Elaine Schmeltz won two events under windy conditions Friday at the Defiance College Yellow Jacket Open, and the Taylor freshman set a new school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the Trojans to a second place finish in the seven-team field.

Knox teacher arrested for child seduction

Robert "Ryan" Corbin was arrested Sunday, April 1 and is being held at the Starke County Jail on preliminary charges of child seduction.
Corbin, 27, was arrested following an investigation that began last Wednesday, when the parent of a Knox High School student lodged a complaint regarding improper Internet contact between a student and teacher.
Corbin teaches physical education at Knox High School.
He is also the varsity girls and boys swim coach.
Knox City Police are still investigating the matter and no more information will be released until the investigation is completed.

Bremen’s Jordan receives IHSAA’s Cato Scholarship

BREMEN — Bremen’s Jack Jordan has been selected as one of 12 senior student-athletes to receive the Indiana High School Athletic Association’s 2012 C. Eugene Cato Memorial Scholarship Award.
Each individual will receive a $2,500 scholarship for their prep accomplishments and will be recognized on Thursday, April 12 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis as part of the Brady Sports Achievement Awards established by Methodist Sports Medicine.

NEW PARIS — Karel E. Neff, 72, of 24752 C.R. 46, New Paris, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 5:38 p.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at IU Health Goshen Hospital Emergency Room.
Surviving is her husband, Richard; a stepson, Richard L. Neff Jr., Texas; her mother, Rosemary Hollingsworth, Tipton; a sister, Kay (Howard) Burns, Tipton; a brother, Walter Hollingsworth, Oregon; and a brother-in-law, Michael Neff, Syracuse.

PLYMOUTH — Luella Marcille Zehner Moyer, 80, died of natural causes at her residence at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012.
Born at home in Plymouth, Feb. 17, 1932, Luella was the daughter of Harold Oscar and Frances Luella Roberts Zehner.
A graduate of Plymouth High School with the class of 1950, she lived in Plymouth all of her life.
Oct. 6, 1950, Luella and Robert Lee Moyer were married in the parsonage of the Plymouth Methodist Church. Robert died Jan. 26, 1999.

ROCHESTER — Virginia Louise Quick, 89, Rochester, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday March 27, 2012 at Wynnfield Crossing, Rochester.
She was born Sept. 19, 1922 in Rochester, the daughter of Ed and Thelma (Downey) Delp. Sept. 22, 1940 in Rochester, she married Joseph Kennedy Quick. He preceded her in death Dec. 9, 2011.

PLYMOUTH — Luella Marcille Zehner Moyer, 80, died of natural causes at her residence at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012.
She is survived by two daughters, Yvonne M. (Jerry) Quint and Diana K. Johnson, of Plymouth; sons, Douglas R. (Deb) Moyer, Oregon, Wis., and James K. Moyer, Plymouth; brother, Oscar M. Zehner, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; sister, Anna M. Bruski of Lockport, N.Y.; and 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

PLYMOUTH — March 26, 2012, John W. Harman, 90, of Plymouth, went to be with the Lord. He is survived by his wife, Theresa; their four children, Mark (Coyne) Harman of South Carolina, Mary Swinehart of Fort Wayne, John (Becky) Harman of Fort Wayne, and Tim (Jennifer) Harman of Bremen; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Reah (Montel) Harman, both of Atwood; his granddaughter, Kelsey Swinehart; and three sisters.

17-year-old suffers gunshot wound to the neck

CULVER — 17-year-old Andrea Bottomley was injured just past 5 p.m. Thursday when a fire near her residence caused a live round of ammunition to create what appeared to be a gunshot wound in her neck. There was no firearm involved in the incident. Bottomley was conscious and breathing, but feeling numbness. She was treated on the scene and later transported by MedFlight to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. She was discharged later that night.
The Marshall County Sheriff's Department and Plymouth Fire and EMS responded to the 911 call. The incident is still under investigation.
