PLYMOUTH — The Chicago White Sox have lost one of their most enthusiastic fans. In an interview in 2005, she is quoted as saying that she had been “a fan forever.”
Esther E. Oliver, 94, died of natural causes in Pilgrim Manor, Plymouth, Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at 12:10 p.m.
Born in Chicago, Esther was the daughter of Axel and Tekla Tengelin Carlson Larson.
Raised in Mount Greenwood, Ill., she went to the Mount Greenwood school through the eighth grade. She dropped out of school during the Great Depression to get a job as a nanny for a local family.

MUNCIE — Helen Grace Behmer Hess, age 92, formerly of Argos, passed away Nov. 7, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Westminster Village Nursing Home, Muncie.
She was born on the Behmer homestead in Union Township near Culver, on Sept. 4, 1918, the fifth of seven children to Harold Eugene and Jessie Alice (Grove) Behmer. She and Gerald, her husband, were lifelong residents of Marshall County until age and health concerns found them reluctantly leaving the area to join their daughter in Pennsylvania in 2001 and then making another move to Muncie, during 2007.
PLYMOUTH — Marshall County will begin the search for a new Human Resource Deputy position in the Marshall County Auditor’s Office.
The Marshall County Council voted unanimously to recommend that the position be refilled taking the recommendation of the Marshall County Commissioners and Marshall County Attorney Jim Clevenger, along with Auditor Penny Lukenbill.
PLYMOUTH — Marshall County will move forward on the possibility of raising the innkeepers tax for the county.
Mike Woolfington, executive director of the Marshall County Convention and Visitors Bureau, came before the Marshall County Council to seek an increase in the tax from its current level of 3 percent to 5 percent. The tax has been at 3 percent for nearly 20 years and the money raised from the tax is the money that Woolfington uses to fund his department that seeks to bring tourists, events and the subsequent dollars spent, to the area.

CULVER — Mary G. Wildes, 87, of Culver died at 10:55 a.m. Nov. 5, 2010 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Culver.
Mary was born to Vincent Roppolo and Lina Rizzo on Oct. 27, 1923 in Gary. She graduated from Emmerson High School. She was married Nov. 24, 1945 at St. Anthony’s Rectory in Gary to Charles “Ted” Wildes. Together they raised five children. Ted preceded her in death in 1999.
Mary was a member of St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church in Culver. She was a very good cook. Mary will be greatly missed by many.

ARGOS — Celia M. Beehler, 86, a lifetime Marshall County resident, died at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.
The daughter of Edward and Orpha P. Jackman Harsh, Celia was born in Marshall County Oct. 21, 1924. She was a 1942 graduate of Plymouth High School and graduated from nurse’s training in 1946.
On Dec. 7, 1952, Celia became the bride of Arden E. Beehler in Inwood. Arden preceded her in death June 29, 1995.
Celia had worked at Marshall County Parkview/Holy Cross Hospital in Plymouth, retiring in November of 1986.

BREMEN — Opal C. (Schultz) Richter, 98, of 316 Woodies Lane, Bremen, died Nov. 5, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. at Bremen Health Care.
Visitation is Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Van Gilder Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Bremen Cemetery.
Van Gilder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
