Plymouth wins NLC opener
Plymouth jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first three and a half innings, and the Pilgrims won their Northern Lakes Conference opener 15-6 on the road at Elkhart Memorial Monday.
Plymouth tallied 17 hits in the win, including five doubles and three triples.
Chase Peters tapped out two doubles and a triple to finish with four RBI, while Connor Flynn and Ike Kastner each both tripled on their way to four RBI apiece.
PLYMOUTH â€” Nicole Rash from St. Louis, Missouri was crowned Ms. America 2012 at the national pageant held Sunday in California.
Rash, a Saint Louis, Missouri transplant, is originally from the small town of Plymouth, Indiana. She was Miss Indiana 2007, and received first runner-up in the Miss America Pageant in 2008.

PLYMOUTH â€” According to a report from the Marshall County Emergency Management agency, the gas leak near Liberty Street Depot on Pennsylvania Avenue has been contained, and residents are being allowed to return home.
A five block radius north and east of the leak was evacuated this morning by the Plymouth Police Department. Lincoln Jr. High School was put on standby but students were never evacuated.
LJH principal Dan Funston said that if the school was evacuated, students would be transported by bus to Riverside Intermediate School, where they could be collected by their parents.
St. Joseph & Marion Counties â€“ On the evening of April 10, 2012, officers with the Indiana State Police and the South Bend Police Department Special Operation Section worked in concert to remove more than 10 pounds of powder heroin from the streets. The multi-jurisdictional investigation that led officers to the estimated $400,000 in heroin stemmed from an investigation that started in Indianapolis during the summer of 2011.
There's a natural gas leak and Plymouth Police and Fire are on the scene as well as NIPSCO. Officers are currently evacuating the immediate residential area. Lincoln Junior High is currently on hold awaiting information from authorities whether to evacuate or not.
The American Red Cross, Marshall County is responding and opening a shelter at the First United Church of Christ (321 N. Center St) for those residents affected by the gas leak.

Plymouth senior Chase Peters earned his first pitching win of the season giving up four earned runs in six innings pitched as the Pilgrims snapped a two-game skid against Rochester last week.
Bremen sophomore Morgan Smith earned the Lady Lions their only win in a dual meet with sectional rival Plymouth last week, avenging one of only two losses last year in the process.
PLYMOUTH â€” Plymouth coach Ed Kelso was expecting a wild game Saturday against the Michigan City Wolves, and the girls on the field didnâ€™t disappoint as the Lady Pilgrims fell in a back and forth 8-5 contest.
â€śOur games with Michigan City, every year we play them, are usually a wild affair.â€ť Kelso said, â€śThis was a typical Michigan City-Plymouth game.â€ť
Glenn holds on at St. Joe
Kyle Liedtky and David Jaworski each had two hits, and Tommy Knape tripled for John Glenn in a narrow 6-5 win at South Bend St. Josephâ€™s Saturday.
The Falcons scored all six of their runs in the first three frames then held on for the win to move to 4-4 on the season.

Of the approximately 700 survivors of the April 12, 1912 sinking of the RMS Titanic ship, only one would eventually settle in Indiana, and August WennerstrĂ¶m made Culver his home -- a home he loved so much he named one of his children Culver. Further, evidence of the Titanic connection to Culver still exists in the form of three maple trees planted in memory of the children of the widower of one soul lost in the sinking.
