LAKEVILLE — Four games ago, LaVille opted to convert senior Kaitlyn Kopetski into a super sub.
Four consecutive wins later, the move looks like a stroke of genius.
In the latest installment Kopetski, a 5-foot-11 forward, hit 11 of 13 from the charity stripe en route to a season-high 21 points, pulled in nine rebounds, and handed out three assists to power the Lancers to a 53-46 Northern State Conference girls basketball win over visiting Knox at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium Saturday.

PLYMOUTH — The list of accomplished Plymouth alums is a long one. Don and Evelyn Heim, members of the class of 1958 could likely take accolades for two different careers.
Both had acclaimed careers in the aerospace industry, and even with the high pressure demands of their jobs also raised three daughters. For the era in which they achieved both, they were a non-traditional family indeed.
BOURBON — Police officers from the Bourbon and Plymouth Departments will soon be using the Indiana Supreme Court’s electronic Citation and Warning System (eCWS).
Instead of writing tickets, officers use a hand-held scanner to read bar codes on a drivers’ license and registration. The information on the license and/or registration is automatically entered on the ticket form.
PLYMOUTH — The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has a familiar face as a new Detective Lieutenant.
Duane Culp — a veteran of more than 20 years service in the Sheriff’s Department — successfully completed the promotion process and takes over as third in command at the Sheriff’s office with the appointment.
The process is an exhaustive one that began under outgoing Sheriff Jon VanVactor and concluded shortly after new Sheriff Tom Chamberlin began his duties.

ROCHESTER — Esther F. Books, 95, of Rochester, died at the Life Care Center Wednesday, Jan. 12.
She is survived by three grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one brother; a son-in-law and his wife; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, and one hour prior to services Monday.
Services are Monday, Jan. 17 at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice of Fulton County.

PLYMOUTH — Marian L. Craiger, 89, formerly of Elkhart, passed away at 10:42 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center – Plymouth Campus.
Always caring of others, she is now in the loving care of her Lord Savior.
In August of this past year Marian returned from the mission fields in the Dominican Republic where she assisted her son and daughter-in-law as a “prayer warrior and caregiver.” She has resided at Miller’s Assisted Living in Plymouth since her return.

DUNLAP — Plymouth’s boys basketball team drained 10 treys and collected a much-needed 52-47 win at Northern Lakes Conference rival Concord Friday.
Ryan McNeil scored each of his game-high-tying 15 points from behind the arc for the Pilgrims. Sean Smith, in his first night back from a five-game suspension, made an immediate impact for Plymouth with 15 points.
Mack Mercer, a 6-foot-7 freshman, added 14 points for Plymouth, which snapped a six-game skid.

BOURBON — Culver Community girls basketball head coach Tony Scheub mulled over his team’s side of the scoring ledger Friday night at Triton.
“Boy, we didn’t score very many points,” he said.
True. But the Class 2A No. 8 Cavs surrendered far fewer.
Buffeted by a superlative team defensive effort and double-doubles from senior twin towers Gwen Zehner and Patrice McBee, Culver defeated Triton 42-31 at The Trojan Trench to remain perfect in Northern State Conference play with only dates with LaVille and John Glenn left on the league slate.

Glenn took a 29-23 lead into halftime but couldn’t hold on as the Lady Lions went on a 14-2 run to take a double-digit lead with 2:34 to go, then held on for a 53-44 win in the opener, while Glenn came alive after a bumpy 23-14 start in the first half of the boys game to surge past Bremen 49-38 Northern State Conference win on Homecoming Night at John Glenn.
