BREMEN — Robert W. Young, 86, of Bremen died Sunday, May 6, 2012 at his home.
Survivors include two sons, Larry L. (Evelyn) Young of Nappanee and Rodney H.H. Young of Bremen; three daughters, Cheryl D. (Greg) Long of Angola, Susan K. (Tim) Michael of Ft. Wayne and Debra J. VanNess of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald (Donna) Young of Plymouth; and one daughter-in-law, Maria Yoder of Topeka.

HAMLET — Kathryn Hensler, 99, died Saturday, May 5, 2012 in Catherine Kasper Home, Donaldson. 
Survivors include: her children, Susan Hensler of Roscommon, Mich., John Hensler of Hamlet, Carol Emig of Evansville and Martha Trenkner of Ft. Wayne; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date. A graveside service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Beaver Creek Township Cemetery, Crawford County, Mich.

PLYMOUTH — Dorothy Marie Thomas, 87, of Plymouth passed away Friday, May 4, 2012 in Danville. She was born Feb. 5, 1925 in Plymouth, the daughter of Alton and Rose (Halt) Carothers.
Dorothy graduated from LaPaz High School with the class of 1942. She lived nearly all of her life in the Plymouth area with the exception of the past four years, when she and Robert lived in the Danville area with their daughter Patricia.
She was a member of the Helpful Hour Friendship Club.

Skiles weighs in on class basketball debate in letter as PHS hosts town meeting tonight

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth High School will give Hoosier citizens a venue in which they can make their voices heard in the single-class/ multiclass state basketball tournament debate as the school hosts a town meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in the PHS auditorium.
The town meeting is the eighth in a series of 11 organized by State Senator Mike Delph (R-Carmel) and Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Commissioner Bobby Cox, who will be in attendance along with Todd Samuelson and Ron Sissel, members of Plymouth’s 1982 state champion basketball team.

Plymouth falls at Warsaw
Plymouth broke through with a run in the top of the sixth, but it was too little, too late as the Pilgrims suffered a 3-1 Northern Lakes Conference loss on the road in Warsaw Monday.
Chase Peters took the loss on the mound for Plymouth as the Tigers scratched out three runs in the bottom of the fifth. The senior starter gave up only three hits in the defeat. He also doubled for Plymouth at the game as the Pilgrims out-hit Warsaw 7-3.
Austin Moore homered and Austin Franzen got the save for Warsaw.

Teen injured in Saturday evening crash

PLYMOUTH — Cayla Hulse, 19, of Plymouth, and Dustin Cobb, 20, of Plymouth were traveling together westbound on 6th Road Saturday evening while involved in a verbal argument. After their vehicle passed Pear Road, Cobb grabbed the steering wheel and turned it to the right, causing Hulse to lose control of her vehicle and collide head on with a utility pole, snapping the pole at the base. Hulse was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center emergency room with neck and chest pain. Cobb received minor lacerations to his face from the airbag deployment but refused transport.

Attempted burglary at Northern Equipment

PLYMOUTH — The Marshall County Sheriff's Department investigated a break-in Monday that occurred over the weekend at Northern Equipment. Both of the buildings had been entered over the weekend, and several doors were damaged where there had been forced entry. It is unknown if anything was taken. Anyone with information about the incident should contact Nicholas Laffoon at the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, 574-936-3187.

Zentis to add 67 jobs by 2014

PLYMOUTH — Zentis Food Solutions North America, LLC, a global producer of fruit preparations for the bakery and dairy industries, announced plans today to expand its operations in Plymouth, creating up to 67 new jobs by 2014.


The company, a subsidiary of Germany-based confectioner Zentis GmbH, will invest $15.6 million to expand its production capabilities to include a new allergen production line, bulk sugar handling system and mixing vessels. As part of the project, the company will also make building renovations at its 180,000 square-foot facility in Plymouth.
