Public gives input on extension of park services

PLYMOUTH — The public had an opportunity to speak on the subject of the Plymouth Park and Recreation Department extending park services to Center and West Townships Monday evening in the park board’s regularly scheduled meeting. The potential change was initially prompted by a survey the park department did of people using the park last year, according to board president Dave Morrow. The survey found that a large number of people using park services resided outside the city’s limits.

Triton unveiling Ernie Watkins Pavilion during open house next Monday

BOURBON — Triton High School will unveil its new football pavilion during a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house next Monday at 6 p.m.
The Ernie Watkins Pavilion is a 1,600-square foot building that will house a ticket area, a concessions stand, and men’s and women’s restrooms at the THS football field. The Triton Athletic Office is encouraging fans to attend the grand opening and celebrate with the friends and family of Ernie Watkins.

Rhodes, Scheetz win AAU grand prix

Kendall Rhodes and McKenzie Scheetz competed in the Michigan Juniors Volleyball Association AAU Grand Prix over the weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Their team, Dunes 12 Black, entered the tourney as the No. 1 seed and finished as the Gold bracket champions in the 12 open age group, going 4-0 in tourney play Saturday at Cornerstone University and 3-0 Sunday at DeVos Place Conference Center.

Plymouth U9 soccer caps off unbeaten season

The Plymouth U9 Girls Travel Soccer Team finished up its season undefeated. The girls brought home gold medals at the Jr. Irish Memorial Day Weekend Invitational and the NISL 2012 Soccer Tournament.

Four arrested in Culver on meth-related charges

CULVER - On Thursday, May 31, the Culver Police Department, acting on information received through the Starke County Sheriffs office, served a search warrant at 515 W. Jefferson St. in Culver.

Hite found guilty of all charges in Starke Court

KNOX — Dale Hite, of Plymouth, was convicted of eight counts of criminal behavior Friday afternoon in Starke County Circuit Court. After three days of testimony, the jury brought back a guilty verdict on all eight charges: Two counts of resisting law enforcement resulting in death, Class B Felonies; two counts reckless homicide, Class C felonies; resisting law enforcement, Class D Felony; possession of methamphetamine, Class D Felony; failure to stop at a stop sign. Class C Infraction; failure to use headlights from sunset to sunrise, Class C Infraction.

Cox’s legacy celebrated at open house

PLYMOUTH — If a coach’s legacy is measured as much by the number of lives he touched as by any records, then Dave Cox’s could be seen Sunday.
The former Plymouth High School girls basketball coach celebrated his recent retirement in an open house at PHS, and past players and their families as well as Plymouth staff turned out in abundance to celebrate his 20-year career at the helm of the Lady Pilgrims.
“I thank Dave for all the things that he’s helped me with over the years,” said PHS girls assistant basketball coach Dave Duncan at the open house.

Tigers flip script on Trojans at Warsaw

WINONA LAKE — Last year, Triton beat Warsaw on the Trojans’ fifth score to win the Warsaw Sectional championship. On Friday, the Tigers returned the favor.
Warsaw recorded a fifth score of 87 to trump Triton’s 100 and break a 323-323 tie for the Tigers’ fourth such title in six years on a damp, blustery and unseasonably cold day at Stonehenge Country Club.

Glenn’s Prentkowski, LaVille’s Zach Gurtner advance to regionals
John Glenn’s Tyler Prentkowski carded a 4-over-par 74, and LaVille’s Zach Gurtner finished two strokes back with a 76 at Erskine Municipal as both golfers earned individual regional berths at the South Bend Riley Sectional Friday.
Both Prentkowski and Gurtner advance to the LaPorte Regional next Friday at Beechwood, scheduled to start at 8 a.m. EDT.

WorkOne will hold event Monday for displaced Stone Creek workers

PLYMOUTH — WorkOne of Northern Indiana announced Thursday that they will hold Rapid Response sessions for displaced former Stone Creek Homes employees Monday. Two sessions will be held in the Plymouth WorkOne office, located at 316 Kingston Road: one from 9 to 11 a.m. and the other from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
"Each individual displaced from employment by closure of Stone Creek Homes should attend one session only," stated a press release from WorkOne Thursday.
