Ancilla hosts 17th annual golf tourney

DONALDSON — The 17th annual Ancilla College Golf Tournament teed off on Monday at the Plymouth Country Club, with 40 teams taking part in the festivities to help raise money for the school.
The tournament, which followed a four-person Florida scramble format, raised over $21,000 for the Annual Fund. Funds received are pledged to support student grants and scholarships.

Shook and German named All-State HM

Plymouth’s No. 1 doubles tandem of Andria Shook, left, and Marissa German, right, were recently named to the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association’s All-State Honorable Mention list.
Shook and German finished their season with an 18-6 record, were named to the All-Northern Lakes Conference Honorable Mention list, the all-district team and finished runners-up at the LaPorte Regional in the IHSAA’s 22nd Annual Doubles State Tournament.

Taste of Culver 2012 slated for Saturday

The Culver Chamber of Commerce's popular, annual Taste of Culver festival will be back Saturday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Jefferson Street between Main and Ohio Streets.

A number Culver's renowned restaurants will offer small sampligs their fare, and last year's Caribbean vibe will be recreated in part by steel drum player Kent Arnsbarger ( throughout the event.

As in the past, attendees may purchase one ticket for each dollar's worth of food or drink they plan to buy, and explore the various offerings available to them.

Burn ban announced for Marshall County

MARSHALL CO. — Due to the extremely dry conditions, the Marshall County Board of Commissioners, with the support of several of the local fire chiefs, issued a disaster proclamation restricting open burning throughout the entire county Wednesday.

23-year-old killed on U.S. 6 Wednesday morning

BREMEN — 23-year-old Taylor R. Dodds, of South Bend, was killed around 6:30 Wednesday morning when his vehicle collided with a semi truck on U.S. 6 near Pla-Mor campground in Bremen.
Marshall County coroner Bill Clevenger said Dodds was traveling east on U.S. 6 when he suddenly swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a semi driven by David Bryant, 55, of southern Indiana. Dodds was killed instantly. Bryant was not injured in the accident, and managed to escape from the cab of the semi before it burst into flames.

P.U. senior enjoys travels

PLYMOUTH — PHS grad Mae Christiansen will be starting her senior year at Purdue University with a new appreciation for people from all over the world and their histories.
After spending three weeks touring Helsinki, Finland and then traveling on to Russia and Estonia, Christiansen is beginning her senior year and majoring in history.
She said, “History is people, and that’s why we can never know everything. History is much more that dates and places. It’s a beautiful web of experiences.”
She was traveling with ten other Purdue students and their professor Anatoli Rapoport.

BREMEN — Dennis W. Stillson, 88, of Bremen, died Friday, June 8, 2012 at home.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Stillson of Bremen; a daughter, Linda (Tom) Greenwood of San Diego; two sons, Dennis “Mick” (Julia) Stillson of Bremen and Charles (Patricia) Stillson of San Diego; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

PLYMOUTH — Stacey E. Bonnell, 48, a Plymouth resident since the late 1980s, coming from Monticello, entered into rest at 4:43 a.m. Sunday, June 10, 2012 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, following a heart related illness.
The son of Donald E. and Christina A. Brockman Bonnell, Stacey was born in Monticello Dec. 16, 1963. He was a 1983 graduate of Twin Lakes High School, where he had been an outstanding athlete in football and wrestling.
Stacey served for four years in the U.S. Army, three of which were in Germany, doing border patrol.
