ARGOS â€” The Argos Public Library was originally begun by three women, members of what was called the Monday Club.
â€śI think they met on Mondays,â€ť explained current library director Jane Hall.
Hall explained that the three women decided that Argos needed its own library in 1935. A year later, the library opened in a small room near the town clerkâ€™s office. Since this was before taxes funded libraries, the local Boy Scouts went door to door collecting books.
PLYMOUTH â€”The three members of the Marshall County ABC (Alcohol Beverage Commission) along with Indiana State Excise Police Master Officer, Michelle Traughber, voted unanimously Tuesday to deny a renewal of a liquor permit for the Eagles Lodge in Plymouth.

ARGOS â€”Â Helen Jane Large Shriver, 87, of 20912 Iris Road, Argos, died at 7:45 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at her residence.
She is survived by three sons, Floyd Shriver Jr. of Argos, Monte (Sue) L. Shriver of Plymouth, Roark Scott Shriver of Valparaiso; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Leiters Ford IOOF Cemetery.

PLYMOUTH â€” V. Jean Gilbert, 82, a lifetime Plymouth resident, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center â€” Plymouth Campus of natural causes. Jean has resided on 12th Road for the past 58 years.
Jean was born the daughter of LeRoy and Anna Viola (Cannan) Belt in Plymouth Sept. 4, 1929. She was raised during the Depression by her grandparents; Ed and Jennie Cannan. She attended Inwood School and graduated from there in 1946.

BREMEN â€”Â Rosemary Mae Ehret, 88, of Bremen, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at her residence. She was born Nov. 11, 1923 in Bremen to Arthur and Buelah (Biehl) Bauer. She married Stanley D. Ehret May 11, 1946 in Bremen. He preceded her in death July 15, 1981.
Rosemary was a homemaker and worked at Ristance Wire. She was a member of the Bremen United Methodist Church and graduated from Bremen High School where she participated in the band.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha; two daughters, Michelle Ann (Michael) Hazzard of Granger, Suzanne Marie Schrader of Bremen; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Alice (Jim) Smith of Mishawaka and Barbara (David) Koehler of South Bend.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Burial will follow in the Bremen Cemetery.

PLYMOUTH â€”Â Donald Keith Rettinger, 86, of 625 Oakhill Ave., Plymouth, formerly of Bourbon, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2011 at 11:28 a.m. in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home.
Donald was born the son of Joe Herman Rettinger and Cecile Gottschalk Rettinger May 13, 1925 at Bourbon. He was a lifelong resident of the Bourbon area and spent several winters in the Haines City, Fla. area. Don was a graduate of Bourbon High School class of 1943.

PLYMOUTH â€”Â Phyllis J. Smith, 82, of LaPorte, formerly of Plymouth, died in the IU Health LaPorte Hospital Monday, Dec. 5, 2011.
Born in Plymouth Jan. 28, 1929, Phyllis was the daughter of Glenn and Myrtle Dietl Tillman.
She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1946, and from the International Business College shortly afterward.
She was first married to Robert B. Staner and later to Charles Smith.
