Robert L. Adams

COLUMBIA CITY â Robert L. Adams, 93, of Sebring, Fla. died March 3, 2011. He had lived at the Palms of Sebring and was receiving Good Shepherd Hospice Care.
He was born in Van Buren Township, Putnam County, Ohio to Virgil and Ruth Adams. The family moved to Indiana in 1927 and Robert graduated from LaPaz High School, Lapaz, Ind. in 1935.

MICHIGAN CITY â Mr. Herbert L. âRedâ Gaddis Sr., age 80, of Michigan City, Ind. and formerly of Walkerton, Ind, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 peacefully in his sleep at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, March 9, at 11 a.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, Michigan City.
Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Walkerton.
Martha Wilcox

PLYMOUTH â Martha D. Wilcox, 96, of W. Jackson Street, Plymouth, Ind., passed away Friday, March 4, 2011, at 11:32 a.m., at her home.
She was born Aug. 7, 1914, in Bremen, Ind., to Grover and Ida (Coyle) Rensberger. Martha and Sylvester L. Wilcox were married June 30, 1951. Sylvester passed away Dec. 27, 1991. Martha was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Sunday, at 6:39 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 30 and Rose Road, Marshall County police and Plymouth fire/paramedics responded to a rollover crash.
Michael Landau, 62, of Canby, Oregon, was later treated for leg and back/neck pain after the single-vehicle crash.
Landau was traveling east on U.S. 30 when he lost control on the ice-covered road surface. He slid off the highway on the south side, going down a small embankment and rolling over several times before coming to rest on the driverâs side.

PLYMOUTH â Itâs not surprising to hear that many 12-year-olds love using their hand-held electronic devises for playing games and chatting with friends, but the one that Travis Louckes uses is far from just a way to pass the time.
Travis, who has been diagnosed with autism complicated with a communication disorder, is non-verbal. Up until about a year ago when he received to his first iPod, his family and teachers would have to guess at what he needed or wanted. Now, he simply shows those around him what he needs by tapping on an icon or typing out a word.
March 6th
Chad Van Herk, familiar to many in Culver as the manager of the local First Farmers Bank, charmed his audience at Culverâs REAL Meals last week with a mixture of original and familiar songs, which he sang to his own guitar playing. The audience was singing along with his last two numbers, âWhat a Wonderful Worldâ (popularized by Louis Armstrong) and the Guy Lombardo classic, âEnjoy Yourself.â Van Herk said heâs been playing for more than 14 years and even has cut a CD a few years ago, which is available online.

PLYMOUTH â Culver Military Academy rallied past Mishawaka Marian for a 55-51 reprisal victory, while South Bend St. Josephâs used suffocating defense to knock out defending champion Plymouth in Class 3A Sectional 19 semifinal action at The Rock Friday.
The Eagles and the Indians will face off in the championship game tonight at 7:30 p.m. EST.

The old adage goes that the best defense is a good offense, but St. Joe showed that sometimes good defense can make for a pretty good offense, too.
TOPEKA â Bremen point guard Ben Hueni willed his team to victory with 16 second-half points as the Lions beat Fairfield 50-43, while the Class 2A No. 7 host Warriors outscored LaVille 41-24 in the second half of the other semifinal for a 64-51 at Westview Friday night.

Bremen coach Kyle Hanyzewski had a simple message for his team going into Friday nightâs sectional match-up with Fairfield â one win, and the Lions would play for a championship.
Bremen will do just that Saturday night.
BOURBON â Second-ranked Triton continued its recent dominance of Class A Boys Basketball Sectional 50, although not without a scare.
Meanwhile, a 29-percent mark from the field and 27 points from Westvilleâs Dan Warnke doomed Argos in a 64-40 loss in the second sectional semifinal Friday at The Trojan Trench.
The host Trojans, 46-39 winners over South Central behind five 3-pointers from senior Griffyn Carpenter, seek their fourth consecutive crown tonight in a championship-round clash with Westville at 7 p.m.

Recently-released census figures have come in indicating Culverâs population is down by about 200 persons, a matter which will impact the town of Culverâs funding in coming years.
This was part of the discussion at last weekâs regular meeting of the Culver Town Council, during which Town Clerk Casey Howard ran some of the numbers.
The year 2000 census indicated Culver had a population of 1,539, said Howard, while the 2010 poll shows 1,353. Council member Ed Pinder asked Howard if she had any theories as to the change.
