Twice as nice for Lions

August 18, 2012

PLYMOUTH — It had taken 15 meetings for Bremen to finally break its losing streak against Plymouth last season.
On Friday, a young and largely untested Lions lineup backed it up with its second straight victory over the Rockies, handing their hosts a 42-26 Senior Nigh Spoiler at The Rockpile in the two teams’ season-opener.

NJSP blasts past Falcons in 2nd half

WALKERTON — John Glenn’s football team dodged a number of first-half bullets against North Judson-San Pierre Friday.
In the second half, though, the host Falcons felt the full force of the Bluejays’ assault on both sides of the line.
Starting with Tim Stasiek’s 62-yard interception return of a deflected throw in the first possession of the second half and accelerated by junior quarterback Caston Sanchez’s 91-yard touchdown pass to Eric Beckman on third and long, North Judson fired off 28 third-frame points and ran away with a 41-15 season-opening win over the Falcons.

Trojans recover at Caston

August 18, 2012

By Dewey Miller

FULTON — Triton football coach Rodney Younis wanted a quick start from his young team.
He got that on offense, but his defensive unit spent much of the its season opener trying to catch up with Caston, and the Comets pulled out the victory 28-20 at the Comet Crater.
“Caston is a solid, physical team,” Younis said. “We just couldn’t slow down their offense in the first half. We made some adjustments at halftime and things got better, but we were behind all night.”

Plymouth girls soccer opens year with win at Argos

August 17, 2012

ARGOS — Plymouth head coach Chuck DeWitt wanted to use Thursday night’s opener at Argos as a forecast for the 2012 season.
The signs looked good.
Plymouth’s girls soccer team used its speed to outshoot the host Lady Dragons 17-7, Allie Wright created three goals for the Rockies — an unassisted strike to put the visitors on the board just 10 seconds in and two own-goals — and Plymouth claimed a 4-0 shutout of area rival Argos on the road.
“It was our opener, and we really didn’t know what kind of team we had,” said DeWitt. “This was a game to show us where we needed to play this season.”
