PLYMOUTH â€” Sherry Jane Long, 52, died peacefully at her home Wednesday morning in the company of her family and assisted care of hospice volunteers. A lifetime Marshall County resident, Sherry has resided on King Road in Plymouth for the past 11 years. She was diagnosed with cancer April 8, 2010.
Sherry was born Jan. 19, 1959, the daughter of Duane W. and Sandra Lee (Dick) Hurford. She was a graduate of LaVille High School in 1977, where she played in the band.

CULVER â€”Â Jack B Kowatch, 89, of North Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Culver, passed away Nov. 20, 2011 at 7:15 a.m. in the Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Fla.
Jack was born Nov. 29, 1921 in Culver. He was one of six children born to John and Vada (Burch) Kowatch. Jack was married to Catherine Thornburg. Together they raised their daughter Sondra. Catherine preceded Jack in death in 1980.Â Jack later fell in love and married Joyce Mikesell, Sept. 4, 1983 at the Maxinkuckee Country Club in Culver.

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. â€”Â Jack B. Kowatch, 89, of North Fort Myers, Fla. formerly of Culver, died Nov. 20, 2011 at Hope Hospice, Cape Coral, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Kowatch of North Fort Myers, Fla.; brothers, Edward (Mary) Kowatch of Culver, James (Beverly) Kowatch of Chicago, Ill., John Kowatch of Culver; son-in-law, Leon Bennett of Culver; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

BREMEN â€” Chester Elmer Walter, 83, died of natural causes at 6:20 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2011 in the Bremen Health Care, where he has made his home for the past four years.
The son of George E. and Dora E. (Sheneman) Walter, Chester was born Jan. 13, 1928 in South Bend. Known to many as Chet, he was a 1946 graduate of Lakeville High School.
June 24, 1949, Chet married Edith Irene Smith at the Holland Family home in Teegarden. The couple had met at a youth activity at the County-Line Brethren Church.

PLYMOUTH â€” Richard A. Cooper Sr., 62, affectionately known as Rick or Coop, a lifetime area resident, died at 3:39 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.
The son of Nelson Sr. and Ernestine Hauser Cooper, Rick was born Jan. 15, 1949, in South Bend.
A 1967 graduate of Plymouth High School, Rick was in the U.S. Navy from September, 1967 to April, 1971, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion and former member of the VFW.
LAKEVILLE â€” The Union-North School Corporation announced an outbreak of chicken pox at LaVille Elementary last Monday. The school took quick action, reporting the cases to the county health department and holding vaccination clinics Tuesday and Wednesday at the school. Health department nurse Susan Lechlitner said that about 150 students were vaccinated.
â€śParents were frustrated but everyone worked through it,â€ť said LaVille Elementary School nurse Lisa Aschenbrenner. â€śThey know we are here to keep the kids safe and healthy.â€ť
BOURBON â€” Itâ€™s been four months since a tragic go-kart accident took the life of 6-year-old Kyle Pugh. Recently, community members showed their support for Pughâ€™s family during a unique turn of eventsâ€”a fundraiser initially intended to raise just a few hundred dollars instead brought in more than $1,000.
â€śKyle was an awesome guy,â€ť said Triton Elementary School principal Jeremy Riffle. â€śItâ€™s a small town and everybody comes together. Friends of the family knew it was for a good cause.â€ť
Children enjoy new play equipment at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bremen. The old playground was burned last Mother's Day, May 8 and could not be salvaged.
