MARSHALL CO. â€” This week is National Mosquito Awareness week, and Marshall County Health Department educator Sandy Read recently shared some tips on how to avoid West Nile Virus this season.
â€śThe state (health department) checks mosquito larvae for West Nile Virus, and there have been some found in mosquitoes but not any in humans so far,â€ť noted Read.
She added that the cases of West Nile Virus were found in mosquitoes in the mid and southern parts of Indiana.
WAKARUSA â€” The Wakarusa and Nappanee Chambers of Commerce held their ninth annual joint golf outing June 19 at McCormick Creek in Nappanee.
The morning session first place team from McCormick Motors, consisting of Steve Neff, Sam Sheets, Adam Yoder and Amy Thompson, shot a phenomenal 25-under-par 47 and left feeling pretty confident of securing the top prize, but Elkhart Clinicâ€™s team of Kevin Boyer, Griffyn Carpenter, T.J. Carpenter and John Miller, carded a 26-under-par 46 in the afternoon session to win by a single shot.
WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. â€” Two Plymouth boys basketball teams traveled to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, to compete in the 2012 Dells Classic held on June 18-20, and both brought home championships.
One of the teams competed in the 17-team varsity division and the other team competed in the 10-team junior varsity division.
Kolter moves up 4 places at Northern Junior Masters
Plymouthâ€™s Nate Kolter rose three places in the second and final round of the Indiana Golf Foundationâ€™s Northern Junior Masters event to finish 69th overall Monday.
Kolter shaved four strokes off his first round total to card an 85 at Pine Valley Country Club in Fort Wayne and move up from a tie for 72nd place, recording a 32-over 174 total at the event.

PLYMOUTH â€“ Marshall County was honored by being the host site of the 2012 Indiana Farm Management Tour on June 20 and 21.
The annual tour is presented by the Purdue University Agricultural Economics Department and the Cooperative Extension Service. Participants come from all over Indiana and surrounding states. This year, seven attendees were from Afghanistan â€”students from the Kabul University who are studying for advanced degrees at Purdue.
PLYMOUTH â€” The annual motorcycle ride supporting the Heminger House will take place Saturday. This is the first year that the event is being organized completely by Heminger House staff and volunteers â€” previously, the ride was supported in part by United Way. The ride has grown in participants significantly each year, and director of Heminger House Annie Wojcik said they hope to sign up about 150 people this year.
â€śThe money raised will be used for operating expenses,â€ť explained Wojcik. â€śWe also need funds to help women rent u-hauls when they move (out of the shelter).â€ť
MUNCIE â€” Sunday was a rough day for Post 27.
The Diamond Spyders dropped both games of a doubleheader, losing the first 9-4 and the second game 9-8 to Post 19 on the road in Muncie.

Things started out well for Plymouth.
LAKEVILLE â€” LaVille softball record-holder Valerie Ingle has signed on to continue her softball career with Ancilla College beginning in the 2012-2013 season.
Ingle, who earned all four of her varsity letters in softball for the Lancers, spent most of her time as shortstop at LaVille. She was a member of the All-Northern State Conference First Team her junior and senior seasons and was also named MVP for her team during those seasons. Ingle was an All-Conference Honorable Mention team member as a sophomore.
Kolter competes at Northern Junior Masters
Plymouthâ€™s Nate Kolter shot an 89 at Pine Valley to finish tied for 72nd at the Indiana Golf Foundationâ€™s Northern Junior Masters competition Sunday in Fort Wayne.
Kolter carded a 42 on the front side but shot a 47 on the back to slide into 72nd after one round at the event. Play continues with a second round today.
Schenk ties for 6th at Chippendale
Plymouthâ€™s John Schenk tied for sixth place in an Indiana Golf Foundation event at Chippendale in Kokomo June 22.
