PLYMOUTH - Word of mouth can be a powerful tool - especially to get power tools in high school students hands.
For the 33rd year students of the Plymouth Building Trades class will unveil their newly built home on Ohio Street in Plymouth and put it up for sale beginning with their Open House on June 4 from 1 p.m to 4 p.m.
Three years ago 12 students built the home, last year the number taking the class doubled. This year, instructor P.T. McKinnis actually had to turn applicants for the course away.
ARGOS — Latisha Shepherd, a 5-foot-4 guard from Argos High School, has committed to continue her basketball and academic careers for the 2011-2012 season at Bethel College in Mishawaka.
“I chose Bethel because it is where I felt the most at home,” said Shepherd. “It allows me to enjoy the two things I love: playing basketball and being in a Christian atmosphere.”

The community is invited to an open house to view The Culver Academies Museum & Gift Shop's new working model train layout Tuesday, May 31, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Present will be Academies senior Lawrence Dann-Fenwick, a Lake Forest, Ill. native, four year senior, and the current Unit Commander of Troop B, began work on the layout last November as part of his senior service project at the school.
The 4.5 by 6 foot layout is a tribute to that used by the student train club for nearly 40 years, located under the school's dining

BOURBON — After Westville ace Ashley Henrich shut out Triton in last year’s sectional championship game, the Trojans knew what they were up against.
On Tuesday, they were ready.
Triton batters took an aggressive approach at the plate and on the bags, and the Trojans surprised Henrich and the Blackhawks with 15 hits, earning a 9-6 upset of No. 5 Westville in a Sectional 51 semifinal at home. The win was a reprisal for last year’s final, when the Blackhawks handed their hosts a 7-0 win for the school’s first-ever championship.
BOURBON — Argos fell behind early and never recovered in a 12-2 Triton Sectional loss to South Central Tuesday.
BREMEN — A fluky timing glitch created a 45-minute delay at the Bremen Girls Track Regional Tuesday.
Culver Girls Academy senior Waverly Neer tried her hardest to put the meet back on schedule.
Seeded faster than the state standard in the 1600 and 3200, Neer blistered the field and the regional record in both races to qualify for the state finals.
Altogether, eight area athletes advanced to the June 4 state finals at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex at Indiana University, Bloomington.

LAKEVILLE — Guess who’s coming to dinner?
Every Sunday, the 35 (to be 36 in June) members of Dale and Betty (Peregrine) Cox’s family come to supper at their home on Walnut Hill Drive in Lakeville.
It’s a tradition that promises to continue. Someone has a birthday every month so there is generally a cake and a party. Everybody brings a dish so it isn’t so much work for Betty. Actually — work for Dale. He loves to cook. He has a bunch of favorite recipes and he cooks for friends too. One Thanksgiving. he prepared 38 turkeys for friends.

ARGOS — Robert Hugh Barcus Sr., 62, of Argos passed away May 22, 2011 at 5:49 p.m. at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth following a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 2, 1948 in Plymouth to Charles and Evalena (Howard) Barcus. He lived almost his entire life in Marshall County, residing in Argos since 1978.
July 15, 1972 he married Darlene Wallace.
He worked for Shamrock Homes in Plymouth from 1978 to 2011, having just recently retired.
He graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1968.

PLYMOUTH — This year’s Yellow River Festival will feature a special guest: Johnny Appleseed.
Playing the mythical pioneer is Steve McPhail, who entertains and educates as Johnny Appleseed throughout the region. At the festival, people can expect to see the colorful character in full costume, which McPhail points out does not include a tin pot on his head.
