PLYMOUTH â€” Plymouth High School graduate Cody Bennett recently signed his Letter of Intent to play golf for Ancilla College in the 2012-2013 season.
Bennett earned two varsity letters in golf at Plymouth High School under coach Ben Waymouth before enrolling at Ancilla this fall.
â€śIt is close to home,â€ť said Bennett. â€śI also have the opportunity to play college golf.â€ť
â€śCody is a great fit for our team,â€ť said Ancilla head golf coach Marc Hayden. â€śHe has a lot in common with the incoming class, and I like that he wants to compete.â€ť
Glenn splits opener
John Glenn earned a split in its season-opener at Meadow Valley Tuesday, beating Tippecanoe Valley 248-268 but falling to Northridge 216-248.
The Lady Falcons were led by Madeleine Silveyâ€™s 60, while Emma Reese shot a 61, Taylor Hines carded a 63, and Morgan Eggleston turned in a 64.
Glenn will play in the New Prairie Invitational next Tuesday.

Then comes the Ladies Big Red Open. This yearâ€™s 13th annual event at the Plymouth Country Club will be held Thursday, Aug. 2. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with a shot gun start at 9:30 a.m. The outing concludes with lunch and an awards ceremony at 1:30 p.m.
LAPAZ â€” It was just past 2 p.m. Monday when LaPaz resident Holly Richwalski spotted something amiss at her neighborâ€™s home at 215 W. 1st Road.
â€śI noticed billowing smoke coming out of the barn across the street,â€ť said Richwalski, adding that she immediately called 911.
A metal and wood pole barn had been on fire for an undetermined period of time and was completely engulfed when fire departments from LaPaz, Bremen, Plymouth, and St. Joseph county arrived on the scene.
BOURBON â€”Â Triton alum and Ball State graduate T.J. Carpenter has been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar. He was named to the list â€” which is selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America â€” with Cardinals teammates Joe Gasser, Tony Lazzara and Alex Stinson, and the four made up the most picks on any individual team in any NCAA Division I program.
Lady Pilgrims open season
Plymouthâ€™s girls golf team opened up its 2012 season with a seventh-place finish at the 12-team Lafayette Harrison Invitational at Battleground Golf Club Monday.
The Lady Pilgrims carded a team score of 374 led by senior Emily Bergerâ€™s 87. Fellow upperclassmen Lauren Rearick and Heather Schrome carded respective scores of 92 and 97, while freshman Morgan Oberley put in Plymouthâ€™s fourth score with a 98 for the day.

PLYMOUTH â€” Jeremy Wegner, 34, of Elkhart, and Kimberly Danaher, 27, of Cassopolis, Mich., were injured early Sunday morning while they were traveling northbound on Michigan Road coming onto the overpass ramp for U.S. 31 North. Marshall County police reported that evidence at the scene showed that Wegner's 1980 Yamaha motorcycle went off the roadway and struck the face of the guardrail on the north side of the ramp. The motorcycle continued traveling against the guardrail face for a short distance and came to rest on the overpass in the middle of the ramp.

PLYMOUTH â€” The first Friday in August is upon us this week, and for the last 22 years, that means that it is also time for the Art Thomas Big Red Open.
The annual event brings together hundreds of former Plymouth athletes, family members and friends for a day of golf at the Plymouth Country Club. The event will tee off at 11 a.m. this Friday, with lunch and dinner provided. Cost is $85 per person.
There is also a nine hole tournament option that tees off at 2:30 p.m. and does not include lunch. Cost for nine holes is $50.
ARGOS â€” Last week, 15-year-old Alexis Hicks, of Argos returned home from what is typically her favorite summertime activity â€” attending Camp Riley at Bradford Woods in Martinsville.
â€śShe goes every year, this is her seventh or eighth year,â€ť said her grandmother and caregiver, Mary Conley.
Hicks has cerebral palsy and as a result uses a wheelchair and has extremely limited mobility in her arms and legs. At camp, however, she was able to enjoy activities such as water skiing, climbing walls, swimming, piano playing, and making tie-dye items.
