Argos, Plymouth draw at girls soccer match

ARGOS — Argos and Plymouth have experienced many dramatic finishes to their girls’ soccer matches over the years. Wednesday night’s make-up game was no exception as Hannah Harrell’s header tied it for the Dragons with about a minute to go in the match.
Neither team created many chances in the first half with only three combined shots on goal. The Rockies created a nice opportunity late in the first half as Allie Wright got to the endline and around the Argos defense, only to have it smothered by keeper Jenni Fishburn.

Plymouth gears up for Memorial

PLYMOUTH — It was a big early win a week ago at Northridge, for Plymouth’s Rockies the challenge this week is to avoid the letdown that sometimes accompanies that win.
“We know it was a big win, but the challenge only gets greater now,” said Plymouth head coach John Barron. “You have more and more people from the outside telling you how good you are. If we start believing that we’re in trouble. We are a good football team — don’t get me wrong — but we’ve gotten there by working at it.”

Plymouth Clerk-Treasurer position open

PLYMOUTH -- The Republican part of Marshall County will hold a caucus on Sept. 25 at the Marshall County Republican Headquarters to fill a vacancy in the office of the Plymouth City Clerk-Treasurer.

Toni Hutchings, the current clerk-treasurer, will be stepping down at the end of September to retire.

Currently, Jeanine Xaver, an employee of the clerk-treasurer since 1987, has cast her hat into the ring to be nominated for the position Hutchings is retiring from.

Funding an health educator

PLYMOUTH -- The meeting of the Marshall County Board of Health met Tuesday to discuss the future of health educator position in Marshall County. The position has not been filled since September 2013, when Sally Read last held it.

Former highway superintendent indicted

PLYMOUTH — A Marshall County Grand Jury returned an indictment on Sept. 16 against former county highway superintendent, Neal Haeck.

Haeck, who worked for the county for 33 years before retiring on May 2, is accused of theft of county property valued at about $12,000. This theft concerned scrap metal and is believed to have occurred sometime between 2012-2013, according to a press release from the prosecutor's office.

PLYMOUTH — Dorothy M. Kelso, 87, passed away of natural causes in her home on Monday, Sept. 15, 2014.
Born in Chicago, Ill. in November of 1926, Dorothy was the daughter of LeRoy and Ruth (Reynolds) Nelson. After graduation from Calumet High School in Chicago, Dorothy did modeling in the area until she met her future husband, Robert C. Kelso.

PLYMOUTH — Dale E. “Bucky” Kersey, 77, formerly of Skylane Drive, passed away on Monday morning, Sept. 15, 2014 at 8 a.m. at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth.
Born in Mishawaka on June 24, 1937, Dale was the son of Dale E. Sr. and Annabelle (McKesson) Kersey. In his younger years, Dale enjoyed fishing and hunting on the family farm with his brother and dad.
On Sept. 9, 1989, Dale E. Kersey, Jr. married Leticia C. “Letty” Camanga in Culver.
