CULVER — Culver Community’s girls basketball team coughed up the ball 40 times Wednesday — and won. By double digits.
Then again, Culver Girls Academy turned the ball over 32 times itself and shot an ice-cold 29 percent from the field.
In the end, Kayla Shaffer and Mickella Hardy salvaged an otherwise choppy, sloppy contest to guide the visiting Cavs past their crosstown rivals, 51-39 at Fleet Gymnasium.
Washington hands Plymouth 1st loss
Washington handed Plymouth’s girls basketball team its first loss of the season in South Bend Wednesday night, 48-27.
The Lady Pilgrims shot just 31 percent from the floor (9-of-29) and turned the ball over 33 times in the loss at the end of a game which featured 53 combined turnovers by both teams.

ARGOS — When J.C. Oudes fouled out with 22.8 seconds on the clock in the second overtime, LaVille ran out of reserves. When Ben Carter knocked down both of his free throws to extend Argos’ lead to five with just 2.5 ticks remaining, the Lancers finally ran out of time.
The Dragons outlasted visiting LaVille 65-60 in a non-conference classic at Phil Weybright Gymnasium in Argos Tuesday night. It was the first win by the Dragons over the LaVille program in three seasons.
PLYMOUTH — It was a case of too little too late as Plymouth’s Pilgrims went to the .500 mark on the season falling at home to South Bend St. Joe by a 46-39 final.
The veteran Indians came out and put Plymouth on their heels with hot shooting and some pressure early and while the Pilgrims were able to take a lead late in the game, they were not able to hold it.
