Falcons surge past Trojans
Treavor Duff had a breakout game for John Glenn with 172 rushing yards, and the Falcons overcame an early score from Triton to claim a 62-7 Northern State Conference win at Bourbon Friday.
Triton went up 7-0 at the 10:24 mark of the first frame on a 38-yard pass from Bryson Mosier to D.J. Riffle, but it was Glenn’s show from there on out as the Falcons racked up 553 total offensive yards to the Trojans’ 90 en route to nine touchdowns.
Mosier led Triton in rushing with 20 yards in nine carries, while Riffle gained 11 yards in one run.
CULVER — There are no do-overs in life. Fortunately, however, that’s not the case on the soccer pitch.
On a three-game skid after losing star center mid Heather Martin to injury several weeks ago, Bremen used Thursday’s Northern State Conference contest at Culver as an opportunity to regroup. The Lady Lions got the job done as senior Jenna Pfeiffer scored the go-ahead on a penalty kick in the 35th minute, and Bremen made it stand up through the second half to snap its losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the host Cavaliers.
PLYMOUTH — Kyle Barry’s near game-tying shot went just wide in the final seconds, and Plymouth suffered a 3-2 Northern Lakes Conference loss to visiting Elkhart Memorial Thursday.
ARGOS — Steffany Parrish led Argos in her third game back, and the Argos girls soccer team ran its record to 8-4 on the year with a 6-0 rout of Westville.
Parrish, playing her third game back from an injury, scored twice and had an assist, while Carly McCay opened the scoring in the fourth minute, Jami Patterson notched her 16th tally of the year, and Sammie Hopkins scored her eighth goal. Keri Bair finished out the scoring for the Dragons.
DONALDSON — Ancilla College freshman striker JaCoby Smith has been named the NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 5 through September 11.
Smith posted six goals and two assists in two matches at the Lakeland Community College Invitational this past weekend, leading Ancilla to a 6-0 victory over host Lakeland and an 8-0 victory over Cuyahoga Community College.
Lady Pilgrims drop NLC match
Plymouth extended the match to four games but couldn’t stop Warsaw in a 25-18, 18-25, 25-14, 25-18 Northern Lakes Conference loss on the road Thursday.
Plymouth was led on the attack by Marissa German’s 12 kills to go with a block, while Haley Harrell led the team in setting and passing with 23 assists and four digs in addition to an ace.
The young Rockies have developed a taste for success.
Three straight wins have only made Plymouth (3-1, 2-0 NLC) hungrier for more as it hits the road for Elkhart Memorial (2-2, 1-2 NLC) Friday.
After a strong second-place finish at the Northern Lakes Conference Tournament over the weekend, the Plymouth girls golf team is surging going into the Warsaw Sectional Saturday.
The Lady Pilgrims should be in the hunt for one of the top three spots that guarantee team advancement to the regional round of the 39th Annual IHSAA tourney along with front-running host and NLC champion Warsaw as well as a strong Rochester squad that has also beaten Plymouth two times this season. Other teams in the field are Culver Girls Academy, Triton, Tippecanoe Valley, Wawasee and Whitko.
