ROCHESTER — Culver head wrestling coach Mike Buschman was hoping his heavyweight could find something to hang his hat on at regionals.
How about a championship?
Culver 285er Jeremiah Harvey surprised the field, handing undefeated Plymouth’s tourney favorite and IndianaMat.com No. 2-ranked Damon Howe a quarterfinal upset, then following up with a dramatic double-overtime pinfall win over Penn’s Kade Maggart in the championship at the Rochester Individual Wrestling Regional Saturday.
BREMEN — Bremen led 24-21 at the half, but Tanner Foust took over after the break as Fairfield claimed a 58-43 win over the Lions at Bremen Saturday.
Foust went 6 of 7 from the field in the second half for 16 of his game-high 24 points. His alley-oop layup at the 5:32 mark of the third frame put the Falcons up for good.
“He was kind of in the rhythm, and he was finding little seams and things,” said Fairfield head basketball coach John Wysong. “We didn’t tell him anything special (at halftime), just try to keep even-keel.”
LAKEVILLE — Last year, LaVille knocked Triton off its undefeated and sole possession of the Northern State Conference lead perch.
This time around the Lancers spent the first 30 minutes acting like a pesky fly that just kept buzzing around the Trojans’ heads, but a late push propelled Class A No. 2 Triton to a 69-59 NSC win at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium Saturday.
With the win, the Trojans enjoy a one-game edge in the league loss column with two games to play.

PLYMOUTH — Two steps forward, one step back.
Coming off a breakthrough week in which they broke into the Northern Lakes Conference win column and put together their first consecutive wins, the Pilgrims suffered a setback Friday, falling to NLC foe Goshen 48-37 in a Homecoming spoiler at The Rock.
Plymouth got off to a slow start as the visiting Redskins held the home team to just three points in the first quarter and 13 total points at the half, snapping a five-game losing streak in the Pilgrims’ worst offensive showing since a Nov. 30 loss to Triton.
CULVER — Culver Community’s girls basketball team viewed its regular-season finale as a sectional contest.
If the Cavs bring the kind of swagger to the real deal that they brought to the pseudo-sectional, watch out.
Class 2A No. 6 Culver allowed just two points over the opening 14:21 — highlighted by a nearly 11-minute scoreless stretch — en route to a 45-22 Northern State Conference win over visiting John Glenn at John R. Nelson Gymnasium Friday.

Hard to argue with that assessment.
The Falcons shot just 31 percent from the foul line and 20 percent from 3-point range, but kept afloat by a strong defensive effort, fought their way to a 41-31 Northern State Conference win over Culver Community at John R. Nelson Gymnasium Friday.
LAKEVILLE — Triton and LaVille wanted a momentum boost going into the postseason, and the visiting Trojans got it Friday night.
Megan Howdeshell, Emily Duff and Lindsey Ganshorn all scored in double figures with 15, 13 and 12, respectively as Triton notched a 53-38 victory, its 11th in the last 12 meetings between the Northern State Conference rivals.

ROCHESTER — Wrestling regionals convene around the state this weekend, and many area wrestlers are hoping to make Saturday’s stop at Rochester the next in a long journey toward the podium at state.
DONALDSON — Ancilla College women’s basketball player Shalana Murray was selected as a co-recipient of the NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Award for January 26.
A 5-foot-11 forward, Murray posted a pair of double-doubles on January 19 and January 22 against Grand Rapids Community College and Kellogg Community College, respectively.
Murray put up 16 points and 16 rebounds in a 61-55 victory over Grand Rapids at home, followed by a 10 point, 15-rebound performance in a 54-52 victory at Kellogg.
