Itâ€™s official. Plymouth native Morgan Uceny is the No. 1 womenâ€™s 1500-meter runner in the world.
So says Track & Field News magazine, which released itâ€™s annual year-end rankings late Saturday, just before the New Yearâ€™s ball dropped in New York.
Track & Field News, known as the â€śBible of the Sport,â€ť has been compiling World and National rankings each year since 1947. A world-wide panel of experts votes on each event and the results are considered the â€śofficialâ€ť rankings of the running community.

HARROGATE, Tenn. â€”Â Argos graduate Amberly Oâ€™Dell recently rewrote the Lincoln Memorial University womenâ€™s basketball record book as she became the programâ€™s all-time leader in 3-pointers.
Oâ€™Dell, a 1997 graduate of Argos High School and senior at LMU, hit four triples in the Railsplittersâ€™ 79-75 loss at Catawba on Dec. 3 to surpass her schoolâ€™s previous career record with a total of 203.
â€śIâ€™m very blessed to have broken this record with such a great team and under the Coach (Roger) Hodge era,â€ť said Oâ€™Dell. â€śIâ€™m so thankful for all the support my family and Coach Hodge have given me.â€ť
PERU â€” The Lancers have had to endure a tough two-game stretch in which the second half has not been their friend.
Their weakness became their strength Thursday as LaVille outscored North Miami 23-9 in the third quarter and 47-23 in the second half on its way to a 79-54 Peru Tournament-opening win over the Warriors.
The Lancers move on to face Whitko in the tourney championship tonight at 8 p.m. after the Wildcats beat host Peru in the nightcap Thursday.
1st half dooms Argos at Winter Classic championship
Argos put up just three points in the first half en route to a 53-36 loss to Winamac in the championship game of the Winter Classic Thursday at West Central.
It was the Dragonsâ€™ second loss to the Warriors this season after Argos lost its season-opener at Winamac 39-38 Dec. 3.
Dominic Cataldo knocked down three 3s en route to a game-high 19 points for the Dragons, while Cain Thorn was limited to just five points one night after finishing with 20 in Argosâ€™ tourney opener versus West Central Tuesday.
PLYMOUTH â€”Â The Post 27 baseball team will have a new identity next year.
The Plymouth American Legion squad unveiled its new Diamond Spyders mascot and logo at the teamâ€™s annual banquet at the Post 27 hall on Tuesday.
According to General Manager and Marshall County Judge Dean Colvin, the mascot should help give the team some identity as it plays in independent, non-American Legion events over the summer.
OD earns championship berth at Hanover Central
Class A No. 4 Oregon-Davis beat Whiting and the host Lady Wildcats at the Hanover Central Invitational Wednesday.
OD beat Whiting 68-59 in the morning game before topping Hanover Central 73-47 in the semifinal Wednesday night, running its win streak to nine straight. Complete results from the games were unavailable at press deadline.
The Lady Bobcats will face Wheeler â€” which beat Knox 46-42 and Griffith 38-35 â€” in the championship tonight at 8:30 p.m.

ARGOS â€” Argos has some shooters this season, but the young teamâ€™s heavy reliance on the outside shot hasnâ€™t yielded great results in the early going.
The Dragons stressed getting into the lane to good effect Tuesday as they claimed a convincing 54-43 victory over visiting West Central in the first round of the boys Winter Classic tournament at home at Phil Weybright Gymnasium.
Argos (2-5) advances to face Winamac â€” which beat Knox 42-38 at Winamac Tuesday â€” in the championship of the four-team tourney in the main gym at West Central Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
ARGOS â€”Â Kayla Prochno and Libby Moyer supplied a one-two punch, and Argos rallied from a 29-28 deficit in the fourth quarter to win its Winter Classic opener against West Central 44-38 at home at Phil Weybright Gymnasium Tuesday.
The Lady Dragons (8-3) went 8 of 12 from the line to outscore West Central (6-4) 16-9 in the decisive final frame for their second straight win. Argos advances to play Rochester, which beat Kankakee Valley 54-49 Tuesday, in the championship game of the Winter Classic in the auxiliary gym at West Central Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
