PLYMOUTH â€” Culver Military Academy won nine of 10 events to continue its streak of championships, while Culver Girls Academyâ€™s short-handed squad took the title in its first-ever venture at the 29th Annual Pilgrim Relays Saturday at Plymouth High School.
Plymouth finished second a second straight year in the boys race, while the Lady Pilgrimsâ€™ placed third behind Rochester with just seven swimmers in a relay meet whose format rewards depth. North Judson was fourth in the girls meet, meanwhile.
PLYMOUTH â€” Plymouth turned up the tempo in the third quarter, and the Pilgrims ran away with the win in a 47-26 victory over Rochester Friday.
An 11-8 second quarter by the Zebras knotted the score at 15-all at the half, but Plymouth cranked up its intensity on the defensive end while showing greater patience in the offensive halfcourt to outscore the visitors 18-3 in the third frame and take a 34-18 advantage into the fourth period. The Pilgrims gapped the Zebras by 20 with 4:44 to go and coasted to the win at home at The Rock.
BREMEN â€” Bremenâ€™s boys basketball team dug just too big of a hole in its season opener against Goshen Friday night.
After falling behind by 16 points midway through the third frame, the Lions twice pulled within seven points, but the visiting Redskins answered each charge and knocked off Bremen 62-51.

PLYMOUTH â€” Offensive and turnover woes continued to plague Plymouth, and the Lady Pilgrims lost their fourth straight with a 50-38 home defeat at the hands of Tippecanoe Valley at The Rock Thursday.
The Pilgrims (1-4) shot just 31 percent from the field with a 13-for-42 conversion rate, including a 1-for-9 clip in the first quarter as they fell behind 8-2 at the first quarter break. Plymouth fared little better at the foul line, reaching the stripe 14 times but converting on just 12 of 26 free throws.
Carpenter leads Westview over Bremen
Skyler Carpenter scored 23 points, and Bremen fell in a 58-46 decision to Westview at home Thursday.
The Lady Lions were led by Jenna Pfeifferâ€™s 14 points, while Allison Shorter scored 11 in the loss, which drops Bremen to 1-5 on the season.
The Lions open Northern State Conference play with a game against Culver Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

HAMLET â€” Oregon-Davis senior Jessica Moore recently became the first member of the Class of 2012 to sign her National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Letter of Intent to play volleyball for Ancilla College.
â€śThe team and the coaching staff were very welcoming,â€ť said Moore. â€śIâ€™ve also heard good things about the nursing program. It will be nice to be close to home.â€ť
Moore, who has been playing the middle blocker position, began attending Oregon-Davis this fall after moving from Wilmington High School in Illinois.
CULVER â€” After Mickella Hardy exploded for 23 points Saturday, Rochesterâ€™s defense made her a point of emphasis headed into Culver.
The Lady Zebras held the 5-11 freshman forward to 2 of 5 from the field and just five points, and Rochesterâ€™s veteran squad held off the young Cavaliers late for a 47-41 victory at John R. Nelson Gymnasium Wednesday night in a make up of a snow-out Tuesday.
