Plymouth wins on Senior Day

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth’s underclassmen stepped up to help give their seniors a present on Senior Day Saturday.
Freshman Cassi Quisell won the vault, floor and bars on her way to all-around top honors, while junior Traci Longanecker scored personal bests in all her events to win the beam and finish second in the vault, floor and in the all-around as the Lady Pilgrims beat both Lowell and Tippecanoe Valley in a three-way meet at home.

Pilgrims can’t hold on to early lead in loss at LaPorte

LaPORTE — The Plymouth Pilgrims were able to build an early lead but couldn’t capitalize on opportunities to build on it, and the LaPorte Slicers pulled away in the end to get the victory on Saturday night in LaPorte, 59-45.
Plymouth used good offensive movement and defensive effort to break out to a 6-0 lead, holding the Slicers scoreless for the first four minutes of the game and getting the ball in the hands of 6’9” sophomore center Mack Mercer for three quick field goals.

compete at NIC
Plymouth went 3-2 and John Glenn went 1-4 in Pool A wrestling at the Northern Indiana Conference Wrestling Tournament Saturday.
The Rockies lost to Clay and Penn and beat Adams, St. Joe and Glenn, while the Falcons beat St. Joe at the big meet.
Neither Plymouth nor Glenn was able to field any individual champions, but Osman Solis, Ian Horvath and DeAndre Pickford all went 4-1 for Plymouth at 113, 160 and 220, respectively.
Also for the Rockies, Kam Markovich, Stephen Abair and Jacob Segraves finished 3-2 at 120, 132 and 195.

A change for the good as Pilgrims beat Minutemen

PLYMOUTH — After three straight losses, Plymouth head coach Ryan Bales decided to make a change.
The Pilgrims’ starting lineup got a makeover Friday as sophomore Tom Felke got his first start at the point, and Gabe Vervynckt stepped in the other starting guard slot.
Plymouth’s revamped lineup jumped off to a fast start, knocking down 10 of its first 11 shots en route to a 22-14 first quarter, then held off the Minutemen down the stretch for a 61-51 skid-snapping Northern Lakes Conference victory at The Rock.

Triton’s girls basketball team downed Northern State Conference foe Culver Community 45-36 at John R. Nelson Gymnasium Friday.
Triton guard Kylie Mason scored a game-high 15 points, followed by Taylor Hatfield with 10 points.
A trio of Cavs — Donna Zehner, Mickella Hardy, and Kayla Shaffer — scored 10 points apiece.

Lady Pilgrims compete at NLCs
Plymouth’s girls swim team competed in the preliminary round of the Northern Lakes Conference meet Thursday at Concord.
Top finisher for the Lady Pilgrims was Megan Senter, who claimed an 11th place result in the 500 free and a 13th place finish in the 200 free, while Katelyn Brown was 12th in the breaststroke.
Lauren Page finished 15th in the backstroke, and Layne Holloway was 15th in the 100 free and 16th in the 50 free. Lexi Fetters finished 17th in the butterfly,
The final round of the NLCs takes place Saturday at 9 a.m.

Cavs hand Trojans NSC loss, 48-24

CULVER — With under a week and a half remaining until the Northern State Conference Meet, every NSC win is a big one.
The Culver Cavaliers won 10 of their 14 matches against conference foe Triton to take a dominant 48-24 victory over the visiting Trojans at home Wednesday and improve their seedings in the NSC.
“I’m pleased with our performance tonight. Our guys wrestled very hard. They’ve been working hard in the room,” said Culver head coach Louis Posa.

Culver shoots through Westville
Culver shot 64 percent from the field while holding Westville to a 34 percent clip, and the Cavaliers claimed a 70-53 win on the road against their sectional 51 foes Wednesday.
Trent Elliott led all scorers with four 3s en route to 21 points at the contest, while Allen Biggers finished with 16, and Jacoda Anderson and Micah Budzinski each finished with 10 as Culver recorded 19 total assists in the win.
Westville was led by Dan Warnke and Kevin Stone-Tharp with 14 apiece, while Glen Cole had 13 for the Blackhawks.
