BREMEN â Itâs been an exciting start to the 2011 football season for the Bremen Lions.
After breaking a 23-year drought against Plymouth in Week 1, they went on to earn a program-first win at Tippecanoe Valley Friday. Now, Bremenâs Sept. 9 game with Triton has been chosen as the second game on the Indianapolis Coltsâ Friday Night Football Tour.
DAEGU, South Korea â Morgan Uceny needed only to advance from her qualifying heat at the IAAF World Track & Field Championships.
So she did.
Uceny, a 2003 Plymouth High School graduate, ran conservatively and settled for a third-place finish in the third of three preliminary races as she began her quest to win a gold medal in the womenâs 1500-meter run Saturday night.
Now, itâs on to the semifinals, scheduled at 7:35 a.m. (EDT) Tuesday at Daegu Stadium in Daegu, South Korea.
ARGOS â Munster outlasted Argos 3-1 in the championship game of the Argos Invitational Saturday.
Melissa Strohl gave the Lady Mustangs a lead midway through the first period, but Sammie Hopkins answered with a blast from 35 yards out just minutes later. Argos, with an enrollment of 215 students, had the first half edge over Munster, which boasts an enrollment of 1616: Strohlâs goal was the Mustangsâ only shot on goal of the opening frame, with the Dragons getting four.
The second half saw the reverse, however, as Munster put seven shots on goal to one by Argos.

PLYMOUTH â The young Rockies did some growing up Friday night.
After failing to convert on a pair of fourth-down conversions from the Rochester 2-yard line in the gameâs opening 13 minutes and giving up a pair of big play touchdowns in the second and third frames, Plymouth found itself down 13-0 early in the second half.
But the Rockies finished five of their next six drives and surrendered just one more Rochester score to claim a 34-20 come-from-behind win over the visiting Zebras at The Rockpile.
BOURBON â Triton football head coach Rodney Younis felt his teamâs offensive rhythm start to slip with a pair of late first-half interceptions Friday.
The second half turned into an all-out free fall on both sides of the ball.
Trailing by six at halftime, visiting Northfield held Triton to just 41 yards of total offense after the intermission and scored during four of its five second-half possessions to pull away from the Trojans, 43-20.
WALKERTON â An opportunity to end over two decades of frustration was there for the taking Friday for the John Glenn High football team.
Unfortunately, Brody Olson stepped in to add to the Falconsâ misery.
Olsonâs grab of a tipped pass good for 30 yards midway through the fourth quarter, helped Jimtown on its way to the winning touchdown and a thrilling 14-13 victory over Glenn in Northern State Conference action at Falcon Field.
NAPPANEE â According to the statistics, CMA should have won the game against the NorthWood Panthers Friday night, as the Eagles outgained NorthWood 295 yards to 229 and had 15 first downs to the Panthersâ nine, but five CMA turnovers were the difference as the Panthers downed CMA 27-18 at Andrews Field in Nappanee.
PLYMOUTH â Sometimes youâre just overmatched.
Such was the case for Culver Thursday as it suffered a lopsided 25-8, 25-5, 25-15 loss against a bigger, stronger Plymouth squad on the Lady Pilgrimsâ home floor at The Rock.
âPlymouthâs a good team,â said Culver head volleyball coach Amanda Minix. âWeâve had some pretty light teams here in the first part of the year, and I told them coming into night âThey play hard, they serve hard, they can place serve it,â and we just kind of fell apart.â
Compared to the next three miles she has to travel, getting to South Korea was a breeze for Plymouth native Morgan Uceny.
Because the next three miles â to be run one at a time â are for all the marbles.
Uceny, a 2003 Plymouth High School graduate, begins her quest to win a gold medal in the womenâs 1500-meter run Saturday when preliminary heats kick off the IAAF World Track & Field Championships in Daegu, Korea.
Is she nervous? You betcha.
But is she ready? Oh, yeah.
