FRANKLIN â€” Plymouth alumna Allison Bayley will join the Franklin College womenâ€™s golf team next week as its makes its return to the NCAA Division III Championship.
Franklin will compete in the 2012 nationals at Zollner Golf Course at Trine University in Angola beginning Tuesday. It is the first time since 2010 the Grizzlies qualified for a team berth to the tournament and the programâ€™s fourth trip to the DIII finals overall.
LAKEVILLE â€” Knox got an emotional lift from its freshman No. 1 singles stand-in, and the Lady Redskins swept host LaVille 5-0 in a Northern State Conference girls tennis meet in Lakeville Thursday.
Brittany Fletcher filled in for usual No. 1 Shelby Gilbert, putting LaVille senior Brittney Haisley away 6-1, 6-2 in a quick two-setter for Knoxâ€™s first match point of the evening, and the Redskins went on to claim straight set wins on all courts.
Bettcher powers Lancers over Culver
Five different LaVille players finished with two RBI each, and the Lancers beat Culver 12-8 in a Northern State Conference game Thursday at Culver.
Ryan Bettcher went 4-for-5 at the plate with three stolen bases and three runs. He was one of five different Lancers who doubled, along with Quentin Herbster, Dalton Sauer, Anthony Singleton and Jason Duerring.
Culver fell behind 9-2 in the first two frames and never fully recovered. George Alvarado doubled and Collin Stevens took the loss on the mound.

PLYMOUTH â€” The Pilgrims battled back at the plate, but wild pitching in the third and fourth innings proved too much to come back from in a 9-7 Northern Lakes Conference loss to Elkhart Memorial Wednesday.
Plymouth sophomore starter Riley Cartwright surrendered four walks with a hit batsman, while catcherâ€™s interference cost another run as the visiting Chargers put up a five spot in the top of the third to grab a 6-1 lead, and another four walks by reliever Jacob Frantz cost two more runs in the fourth.
ELKHART â€”Â Senior Night for the Plymouth softball team is still about two weeks away, but the Lady Pilgrimsâ€™ two 12th-graders were at the center of nearly all the action Wednesday as Plymouth manufactured a thrilling 2-1 NLC victory at Elkhart Memorial.
Catcher Emilee Keilman was in the thick of things during both Plymouth tallies, including driving in the game-winner with a two-out, seventh-inning single, while her fellow senior and batterymate Marissa Sullivan shut down the aggressive Memorial hitters with a 15-strikeout performance.
Lindsey pushes Triton past Knox
Triton put up four runs in its final turn at the plate, and the Trojans rallied past visiting Knox 4-3 for a Northern State Conference win at home Wednesday.
Marc Lindsey drove in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give himself the win on the mound after coming in to relieve Seth Flenar in the fourth.
PLYMOUTH â€” Plymouth earned a split at its final Northern Lakes Conference three-way at home Tuesday, and it was one for the Lady Pilgrims to grow on.
The team picked up only three first-place finishes in a 74-54 loss to Northridge but saw improvement in several events and gained some conference momentum with a 75.66-55.33 win over Goshen on Senior Night.
The Lady Pilgrims conclude the conference dual meet season at 4-3, a projected fourth-place finish behind Warsaw, Elkhart Memorial and Northridge heading into next Tuesdayâ€™s NLC championship meet.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. â€”Â As a video coordinator at the University of Arkansas, Bremen native Andy Wagner is used to being on the other side of the spotlight.
But the Razorbacksâ€™ Director of Sports Video will get some much-deserved attention of his own when he returns to Indiana to receive the Southeastern Conference Video Coordinator of the Year Award at the 18th Annual Collegiate Sports Video Conference May 14-17 in Indianapolis.
Nixon, Northridge shut out Plymouth
Haley Nixon threw a one-hitter, facing the minimum of 21 hitters as undefeated Northridge downed Plymouth 3-0 Tuesday.
The Raiders manufactured a run in the fourth off Plymouthâ€™s Marissa Sullivan, using an infield hit, a bunt, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly, then tacked on a pair for insurance in the seventh.
Britney Horvathâ€™s bunt single was the only hit and only baserunner for Plymouth.
Plymouth visits Elkhart Memorial today to begin the second round of NLC play.
