BREMEN — With a streak of dual meet victories reaching into the 50s, Triton’s top flight tandem of Quentyn Carpenter and Ryan Rapp are hoping to keep the string alive through their senior seasons.
They got off to a fair start Wednesday night.
Carpenter earned meet low medalist honors with a one-under 35, Rapp shot 38, and the Trojans got a big boost from No. 3 Tanner Shepherd’s 38 in the windy, wet, cold and generally sloppy conditions at Sprig O’Mint as Triton opened its dual meet season with a team score of 157 to top a three-way Northern State Conference field.
LAKEVILLE — Several members of the LaVille High School boys basketball team will be taking team work into the mission field this summer.
BOURBON — Triton senior Clay Yeo can now add another first to his already impressive resume.
Yeo was selected as the first player in Trojan boys basketball history to play in the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star Series, Triton announced Tuesday. He is one of 13 Indiana seniors who will play against the Kentucky All-Stars on June 14 in Louisville, Kentucky and on June 15 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
BREMEN — It wasn’t a win, but you could call Tuesday’s softball game at Bremen a moral victory for Plymouth.
After opening the season with three straight shutouts, the Lady Pilgrims were finally able to get on the scoreboard Tuesday. Plymouth scratched out three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to cut its deficit in half after a fast start by the host Lady Lions, but back-to-back triples during a four-run sixth proved to be the backbreaker as the Lions downed the visitors, 10-3.
ROCHESTER — Gale force winds don’t usually mean good news — unless you’re a pitcher.
Four pitchers found that out at Rochester on Tuesday night as the winds howled and the Zebras (5-1) and Plymouth Pilgrims (1-2) battled to a 2-1 final in a game that saw just four hits. It was a night of the pitcher.
Bremen beats up Bethany
Wes Burkholder and Pedro Lopez combined for a one-hitter, and Eric Knepper hit a grand slam for Bremen, which made short work of the Bruins on the road at Bethany Christian Tuesday, 13-0.
Burkholder helped his own cause with two hits, including a triple, while Bobby Cornett also finished with two hits, one a double, and three RBI.
Burkholder surrendered no hits and five walks with four strikeouts in three innings for the win, the Lions’ second of the week.
