Lady Cavs knock off Satellites in OT

February 6, 2013

HAMLET — The basketball, not to mention Culver Community’s season, hung seemingly in suspended animation on the rim.
The ball, lofted wide open from the right block by South Central freshman center Riley Popplewell rolled off the front of the iron as regulation expired to extend the game and the Cavs’ season.
In the extra session, Culver sophomore forward Donna Zehner scored five points and swiped a pair of steals as the Cavs eked out a 41-39 overtime victory over the Satellites in the Class A Girls Basketball Sectional 51 opener at Oregon-Davis Tuesday.

CGA starts fast in win over New Prairie

February 6, 2013

NEW CARLISLE — Few teams can afford to overlook their opponents come tournament time, especially on their home floor.
At 1-19 coming into Tuesday’s Class 3A Sectional 19 opener, host New Prairie looked like a pushover on paper, but the Lady Cougars came ready to play. Fortunately for Culver Girls Academy, so did they.
CGA took control early with a 13-2 game-opening run, and the Lady Eagles never looked back in an eventual 59-49 sectional quarterfinal win.
