Bremen, CMA sending swimmers to state

While both Bremen and Culver Military finished short of a championship at last weekend’s boys swim sectionals, both squads took home some pretty nice consolation prizes.
The Lions and the Eagles finished fourth and second at the Penn and Warsaw Sectionals, respectively, but both saw banner days for individuals, setting school records while grabbing multiple berths to this Friday’s 76th Annual IHSAA State Finals at the IUPUI Natatorium.

Schmeltz named Glenn’s Falcon Award winner

WALKERTON — John Glenn has announced golf coach Randy Schmeltz as the Falcon Award recipient for 2012.
The award will be presented at halftime of the boys basketball game against Penn Friday.
Schmeltz is in his 32nd year as an educator for the school corporation and is currently a physical education teacher at Urey Middle School, where he is the eighth grade girls basketball coach in addition to being the head coach of the Glenn High School boys and girls golf teams.

3 named to IHSBP’s Academic All-State lists

ARGOS — Argos’s Abigail Cohagan, Bremen’s Zach Compton and NorthWood’s Samantha Zent were all recently named to the Indiana High School Bowling Program’s Academic All-State list for the 2012-13 school year.
Cohagan and Zent were among only 26 girls in the state to make the list, while Compton was one of 33 boys selected to the annual team.
In order to be nominated, students must be seniors who have competed in at least one varsity game with a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent and must have a minimum SAT score of 1500 or ACT score of 22.

8th grade girls basketball
Lincoln 8th bounces back
The Lincoln Junior High eighth grade girls basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season Monday with a win Tuesday night.
The Lady Red Storm fell by a heartbreaking 28-26 margin to Whitko after falling behind 20-8 in the first half Monday.
Nicole Horvath led Lincoln in scoring with 10 points, followed by Destiny Schoff with four and Hanna Hopple and Ashley Harrell with three apiece as the team finished just 28 percent from the floor.
