Rockies tops at sectional

January 28, 2013

PLYMOUTH — A conference co-championship was nice, but after a runner-up finish at the NLC Championship Meet the weekend before, Plymouth’s wrestling team wasn’t settling for second best Saturday.
The Rockies placed five wrestlers in the finals on the way to four individual titles, and Plymouth earned the team championship at its home sectional Saturday at The Rock.

Pilgrims make quick turnaround at Mishawaka

January 28, 2013

PLYMOUTH — What a difference a day makes.
Unable to make a defensive stop only 24 hours previously in a loss to Northridge, it was the Mishawaka Cavemen who couldn’t get it done Saturday night, falling to the Pilgrims by a 52-48 final.
A Joe Knapp drive to the basket with just seconds remaining put the Pilgrims ahead to stay.

Lady Trojans send seniors out in style vs Jimtown, 74-16

January 28, 2013

BOURBON — The Lady Trojans wanted to send their seniors out in style against Jimtown Saturday night.
Triton took care of business as they dominated the Lady Jimmies 74-16 on Senior Night at the Trojan Trench Saturday night.
The win keeps the Trojans perfect in the Northern State Conference, while the Jimmies remain winless in conference play.
“Our girls were on top of their game tonight,” said Triton coach Adam Heckaman. “They wanted to make sure seniors Shana Anderson and Breanna Lemler went out in grand style, and they did a good job of that.”

Pilgrim gymnastics takes 4th at loaded Merrillville Invitational

January 28, 2013

MERRILLVILLE — Fresh off a dominating performance earlier in the week at West Noble, the Plymouth High School gymnastics team headed to Merrillville for the Pirate Pride Invitational on Saturday, hoping to find out a little about where it stacked up in relation to some of the best the state has to offer against a tourney field that included No. 2-ranked Portage, No. 5 Columbus East and No. 6 Merrillville, along with 12 other teams.

Pilgrims fall in OT at Northridge

January 26, 2013

MIDDLEBURY — Effort was in abundance, but Plymouth was one defensive stop short in dropping an overtime road game to Northridge 51-49.
“I think we played hard, but I don’t know what it is — lack of listening, lack of execution at key times,” said Plymouth head coach Ryan Bales. “Let’s face it — we gave up dribble penetration at key stretches. We get a chance to stop them and we couldn’t get the lead down the stretch there. We were there. One possession game.”

Hostetler tops 1,000 in LaVille win

January 26, 2013

LAKEVILLE — LaVille’s Andrew Hostetler reached a personal milestone early in the first quarter and just kept piling on the points.
With the first of his five 3-pointers Friday, the 5-foot-11 senior guard scaled the 1,000-career-points plateau and set the stage for the Lancers’ 46-33 Northern State Conference boys basketball victory over visiting Culver Community at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium.
