LaVille takes care of business in 56-26 win vs Riley

January 10, 2013

LAKEVILLE — Sometimes the easiest thing to do is play to the level of your competition.
Coming into Wednesday night’s contest against a struggling South Bend Riley squad nestled in between Saturday’s NSC win against Bremen and Friday’s conference doubleheader at Knox, it would have been easy for the Lady Lancers to overlook the Wildcats.
But instead LaVille’s girls basketball squad hit the floor ready to play, jumping out to a 15-4 lead at the quarter break and steadily building to a lopsided 56-26 win at home at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium.

High tide for Bama, low tide for Irish

January 10, 2013

South Beach was not as kind to the Notre Dame football team as South Bend has been, but honestly, who was surprised? And now that the college football season is complete, we can separate fact from fiction.

FICTION: Based on earlier bowl game outcomes, the SEC was not as good as advertised.

Harsh Reality

January 10, 2013

It was a surreal experience watching that National Championship game Monday night.
I’ve never watched a game with a team I rooted for where I was so certain of the outcome so early.
Watching Notre Dame get man-handled by Alabama after the first quarter was simply an exercise in self-loathing.
I know in my heart of hearts, the Irish had no shot.
But in the days leading up to the game, I went through every permutation of how they could win.
The only way, I thought, was if they jumped out to an early lead. Get up 21-0 out the gates and just hold on.
That of course did not happen.

Bremen senior Foster signs with Bethel tennis

January 10, 2013

BREMEN — Bremen High School senior Brad Foster has signed his letter of intent to play tennis at Bethel College next year.
According to Bremen tennis coach Andrew Rhode, Foster can help the Pilots both as a singles and a doubles player, and his qualities as a teammate will also be an asset to the team as it looks to improve on last season’s 3-11 mark.

Falcons handle Lions in NSC dual
Northern State Conference front-runner John Glenn recorded 10 pins and wins in all but three weight classes in a 63-16 dual NSC win at Bremen Wednesday night.
Devon Becker, Austin Coach, James Frey, Ryan Ishmael, Derek Hiler, Adam Dodson, Troy Brassel, Mason Strycker, Cole Jacobson and Jacob Ayres all recorded pinfall wins for the Falcons, including first-period falls by Becker, Frey, Hiler, and Jacobson.
The Lions’ lone wins came at 120 by forfeit, via a Josh Fuchs decision at 145, and Caleb Coffel’s quick 36-second pinfall win at heavyweight.
