CMA cruises past Adams
Culver Military jumped out to an early 5-1 lead to cruise to an eventual 6-3 victory over visiting South Bend Adams in a varsity hockey game Wednesday at The Academies.
Brock Frazer put CMA on the board at the 7:03 mark of the first period. His goal at the 13:50 stop of the second broke a 1-1 tie, and he went on to score a hat trick. Daniel Vaughan had two goals and an assist, and Kyle Bartelman finished with a goal and two assists in the win.

PLYMOUTH — The coaches had glowing things to say about one another and about each other’s squads after the game, but the Pilgrims showed the Eagles no love at the outset on Valentine’s Day.
Plymouth used an 18-4 second quarter to jump out to a 31-11 halftime lead then held off Culver Military in the second half for a 53-36 win in a coaching showdown between Bethel products Ryan Bales and Mark Galloway Tuesday at The Rock.

Yeo scores 44 in win over Zebras
Clay Yeo scored a career-high 44 points, and Class A No. 4 Triton beat host Rochester 67-49 on the road Tuesday.
Yeo put up all of his points from two-point range as Triton won its second straight following an upset at LaVille Feb. 4.
Rochester was led by Jonathon O’Dell’s 18 points in the loss.

WALKERTON — The John Glenn School Corporation announced Tuesday that superintendent Richard Reese has been named the 2011 Falcon Award recipient.
A 1973 John Glenn High School graduate, Reese has been with the John Glenn School Corporation for 27 years, seven as the superintendent of schools for the corporation and 20 years as the principal for Urey Middle School.
HAMMOND — Purdue University Calumet junior and PHS graduate Alex Starr was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, after joining PUC’s 1,000-point club during PUC’s 77-73 win over Trinity International on Saturday.
The weekly honor is the first of Starr’s career and the fourth for the Peregrines this season, who earned the honor a league-best six times a year ago.

The Plymouth High School girls basketball coaching staff during a break in the action of the Lady Pilgrims' New Prairie Sectional game with South Bend St. Joseph's last week.
In an unusual turn of events, The Indians pulled the ball out midway through the third quarter, and the clock wound down for more than three and a half minutes.
PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth-based MARCO Bass Masters recently recognized the accomplishments of the 2011 members at the annual awards banquet held at the Brass Rail Bar and Grill.
Plymouth resident Rick Hite claimed his third straight Angler of the Year award after dominating the 2011 season by accumulating 55.61 points with three victories, two seconds and three thirds in eight events.
Shawn Mark of Bourbon was the runner up with 42.71 points. He had two wins and a second place. Brian McNeal of Fort Wayne had 40.86 points to finish third with one win, a second and a third.
The Triton freshman boys basketball team won the Northern State Conference Tournament Feb. 4, beating New Prairie, Bremen and Jimtown at the tourney.
