Plymouth’s Peters performs in IHSBCA North-South series

JASPER — Plymouth High School graduate and Ancilla College signee Chase Peters participated in the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association’s 38th annual North-South All-Star Series at Alvin C. Ruxer Field in Jasper July 14-15.
Peters finished 3-for-6 at the plate with two stolen bases as his North team went 2-1 against the South squad at the series, winning 4-3 and 14-10 in the doubleheader July 14 and falling by a close 2-1 margin in the wooden bat game July 15.

Legion team wins sectional

PLYMOUTH —It took two games on Sunday but the Plymouth Post 27 Diamond Spyders were able to come away with an American Legion Sectional title with an 8-0 victory over Kokomo Post 6.
Kokomo came through the losers’ bracket of the tournament and needed to get two victories over Post 27 on the day to take away the Sectional title but playing five games in three days looked like it took its toll on Post 6.

McCay signs with Hanover College

ARGOS — Carly McCay, a 2012 Argos High School graduate, has signed to play soccer at Hanover College.
McCay, daughter of Mike and Rhonda McCay, was a four-year letter winner for Argos. A center midfielder and captain, she led the Dragons to the semistate and Northern Indiana Soccer Conference title this past season. She was a first team all-conference selection twice for the Dragons, won the varsity mental attitude award and was named honorable mention for the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association Academic All-State team.

8U Denver Tourney Champions

8U Denver Tourney Champions

The 8U travel baseball team, sponsored by U.S. Granules, played at the Town and Country State tournament Districts hosted in Plymouth, last weekend and finished fourth which allowed them to transfer to semi-state, hosted in Denver. The team is also transferred out of semi-state as a #4 seed to the state finals this weekend. The team plays its first game Friday at 6 p.m. in Sweetser.

Plymouth's Mann chooses Trine

PLYMOUTH — Cole Mann is a family man. So when it came time for him to choose a college, he let his family help him decide.
The 2012 Plymouth High School graduate and former Rockie will ply his football skills at NCAA Division III Trine University beginning in the fall.
“My mom loved it and my sister loved it,” he said. “My grandma loved it, and she passed away. She was a big part of my life. Family is a big thing for me, and I wanted to go somewhere where they were comfortable.”

PCC beats Maplecrest
The Plymouth Country Club Ryder Cup team recently vanquished its friends from Maplecrest Country Club, winning 20-12. The win was the fourth straight for PCC.
A rematch will take place Aug. 22 at Maplecrest.
Team members were Jon Huffman, Pat Bayley, Jeff Starr, Brad Parkhurst, John Hampton, Ryan Cummings, Jack Kary, John Wendel, Kent Naylor, Greg Scheetz, Dave Goebel, Steve Hissong, Paul Martindale, Jim Galt, Gary Treat, Rob Carlson, Jim Beckham, George Blackburne, Mike Galt and Andrew Morris.

Spyders fall to eventual champion Highland in Patriot Classic semifinal

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth entered Sunday’s semifinal game against Highland Post 180 behind an offensive onslaught Saturday when it saw the team collect 23 runs on 20 hits in games against Crawfordsville Post 72 and Three Oaks post 204. However, Highland was the number one seed in the tournament and showed why in a 3-0 victory over the Diamond Spyders en route to the Patriot Classic championship at Bill Nixon Field.

Spyders split again at Patriot Tourney

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth split games for the second straight day in the Patriot Classic Friday, losing the first game to Highland Post 180, 10-0 and getting the victory in the night cap over Crawfordsville Post 72, 7-4.

PLYMOUTH 0
Plymouth couldn’t get much going in the first game. 
Highland starter Anthony Gomez allowed only one Diamond Spyder hit, a second inning single by Nick Latham and allowed only four base runners in the 10-run-rule shortened game.
