LAKEVILLE — Sometimes when the shots aren’t falling, all you can do is keep putting them up.
LaVille overcame a tough 2-for-9 start from 3-point range to finish at an eventual 7-for-18 mark from deep — led by senior guard Andrew Hostetler’s six triples — and the Lancers gapped visiting Buchanan with a 14-3 fourth quarter-opening run to hand the visiting Bucks a 48-30 loss at home at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium Friday night.
DONALDSON — For the second straight year, the Ancilla College softball team put its Christmas spirit to work by helping the homeless.
The Lady Chargers kept up their tradition by allowing fans to donate socks at all home softball games in the fall and spring, in place of paying admission. Over 200 pair of socks were collected and donated to Hope Rescue Mission in South Bend. The team went one step further this year.
“The socks were great,” said Ancilla coach Scott Reese, “but we wanted to do a little more.”

OD moves to 9-1
Class A No. 2 Oregon-Davis jumped out to a 41-6 halftime lead over visiting West Central and never looked back in a 62-20 rout at home Friday night.
Ashley Campbell scored 19 and Alicia McIntosh finished with 17 for the Lady Cats. Jesse Avarone scored nine, Haley Collings finished with eight, and Taylor Kranenburg scored six as 12 different OD players saw the floor in the win.
West Central was led by Alicia Kruger’s six points.
The Bobcats improved to 9-1 with the win, while West Central slid to 5-5.

PLYMOUTH — “People show up at the games here they expect Plymouth to play a certain way,” said Plymouth head basketball coach Ryan Bales. “Our crowd brought a little sixth man for us tonight. Hopefully they walk away tonight proud of our guys and proud of their effort.”
Effort was the word for the week for Plymouth basketball as a disheartening loss last Friday turned into back-to-back wins — Wednesday night at Whitko and a big overtime win over Penn at home Thursday night, 66-62.
ARGOS — To hear John Glenn head coach Travis Hannah tell it, it wasn’t so much his players who needed a win as the Falcons skipper himself.
Glenn rode senior shooter Nathan Stegemiller’s hot hand to a 24-7 third quarter to take a 52-32 lead into the fourth quarter, then held off scrappy Argos to break into the win column in a long-awaited victory at Phil Weybright Gymnasium Thursday night, 61-49.
WALKERTON — John Glenn’s girls basketball team kicked up its five-week-old winning streak another notch Thursday.
The Lady Falcons, who claimed a combined seven wins over the previous two seasons, snared their 10th straight victory with a 53-44 Senior Night win over a quick, physical South Bend Adams squad at The Aerie.

Bethany beats Bremen
Bethany Christian outscored host Bremen 31-20 in the second half to rally back from a tenuous one-point deficit at the half, and the Lady Bruins earned their third straight win with a 52-42 victory over the host Lady Lions Thursday night.
Bremen was led by Sara Slabaugh’s nine points just six days after the junior guard dropped 26 in the Lions’ first win of the year versus Knox last Friday.
Megan Stouder and Ashley Lucchese each finished with eight in the loss, which drops Bremen to 1-10.

SOUTH WHITLEY — Plymouth got a slow start on the evening but finished strong to get a road win at Whitko Wednesday night.
The Pilgrims used a 20-point third quarter to build a lead on the host Wildcats en route to a 62-36 victory.
BOURBON — The Lady Triton Trojans came up short Wednesday night as they lost to the undefeated Lady Warsaw Tigers 49-32 at the Trojan Trench.Â
“They are a good team,” said Triton coach Adam Heckaman. “There is a reason they haven’t lost a game this year. They play very good defense. They don’t get out of position. They don’t hurt themselves. They take care of it and they work to their strengths.”Â

Plymouth stays perfect in NLC
Plymouth’s Rockies remained unbeaten in Northern Lakes Conference wrestling with a 60-12 win on the road at Warsaw Wednesday.
Plymouth wrestlers won six matches by pinfall as Nolan Wright, Logan Wiegand, Eli Wendt, Aaron Houin and Drew Dodson all earned second-round victories by fall, and Vicinte Vasquez notched a third-period pin for the Rockies in a make-up of a dual meet rescheduled from two weeks ago due to illness throughout the Plymouth lineup.
