OK, here’s the key thing to remember:
Morgan Uceny has to run three races to earn an Olympic Gold Medal.
But she only has to win one.
As much as everyone in Plymouth wanted to see the 2003 PHS graduate sweep through her preliminary race of the women’s 1,500-meter run in London Monday morning, the fact is: the only race that really matters is the one for the championship Friday night.
So, Uceny’s second-place finish in round one Monday was fine, just fine. She advances to Wednesday’s semifinals, scheduled to start at 2:45 p.m. (EDT).
LaVille wins 3-way, dual
LaVille topped a three-way nine-hole meet with Northern State Conference opponents New Prairie and Knox Monday, and the Lady Lancers also beat the Cougars as the two teams’ played out 18 at Sprig O’Mint.
Lauren Read led the field with a 43, Shayla Eggert shot a 48, Whitney Brown carded a 51, and Melissa Hall shot a 53 for LaVille, which finished nine in 195.
Read also shot the low round of the 18-hole meet with New Prairie, coming in in 86 as the Lancers won 393-407.
