BOURBON — Triton alum and Ball State graduate T.J. Carpenter has been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar. He was named to the list — which is selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America — with Cardinals teammates Joe Gasser, Tony Lazzara and Alex Stinson, and the four made up the most picks on any individual team in any NCAA Division I program.

Lady Pilgrims open season
Plymouth’s girls golf team opened up its 2012 season with a seventh-place finish at the 12-team Lafayette Harrison Invitational at Battleground Golf Club Monday.
The Lady Pilgrims carded a team score of 374 led by senior Emily Berger’s 87. Fellow upperclassmen Lauren Rearick and Heather Schrome carded respective scores of 92 and 97, while freshman Morgan Oberley put in Plymouth’s fourth score with a 98 for the day.

PLYMOUTH — Missed opportunities made all the difference as Plymouth Post 27 fell not once but twice to Mishawaka Post 161 at Indiana American Legion Baseball Regional 1 at Bill Nixon Field over the weekend.
July 27th
PLYMOUTH — The American Legion Baseball Regional tournament was rescheduled Friday.
Plymouth will now play Mishawaka Post 161 at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bill Nixon Field following a 10 a.m. game between South Bend Post 50 and Valparaiso Post 94/170.
The winners will play at 4 p.m. and the losers will play at 7 p.m.
CULVER — The first annual Canoe, Kayak.& SUP Poker Run was a great success, according to co-organizer Kathy Clark, director of the Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Council.
In all, 41 people signed up to participate, bringing their favorite self-propelled watercraft for some fun competition with friends, family and neighbors, including one participant’s handmade, wooden kayak.
STAUNTON, Virg. — Plymouth graduate Meagan Barron was recently named to the USA South Academic All-Conference Tennis Team as a freshman at Mary Baldwin College. She was one of 851 athletes to earn the honor this season.
Barron, a 2011 graduate of Plymouth High School, is a three-sport athlete with the Fighting Squirrels participating in volleyball, basketball and tennis. She was the college’s 2011-12 Rookie of the Year and was named Most Competitive on her tennis team on her way to all-conference honorable mention.

Gurtner takes 8th at Mountain Dew Junior Tour championship
LaVille golfer Zach Gurtner tied for eighth in his division at the Mountain Dew Junior Golf Tour Championship Friday at Harrison Hills Golf Club in Attica.
Gurtner shot a 4-over-par 76 to finish in a two-way tie for eighth in the Boys 15-16 competition while friend and Northern State Conference competitor Tyler Prentkowski shot a 13-over 85 to finish in a tie for 18th place in the division.

CALUMET — After a banner junior basketball season, 2009 Plymouth High School graduate Alexandria Starr was named Purdue University Calumet’s Student Athlete of the Year for 2011-12.
JASPER — Plymouth High School graduate and Ancilla College signee Chase Peters participated in the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association’s 38th annual North-South All-Star Series at Alvin C. Ruxer Field in Jasper July 14-15.
Peters finished 3-for-6 at the plate with two stolen bases as his North team went 2-1 against the South squad at the series, winning 4-3 and 14-10 in the doubleheader July 14 and falling by a close 2-1 margin in the wooden bat game July 15.
