Culver Community sophomore Kayla Shaffer broke her school’s 100-meter dash record with an 11.1-second finish during a dual Northern State Conference meet at Triton Thursday.
Triton senior Chandler Slone shot a 78 at Mystic Hills to win the individual championship and lead the Trojans to their fifth straight team championship at the Marshall County Golf Tournament Saturday.
CULVER — When Triton senior Chandler Slone double bogeyed 17, he could feel the championship slipping away. But he recovered with a 15-foot putt for birdie on the 18th green at Mystic, earning the right to go out on top.
Slone was low medalist with a 78, and the Trojans swept the top three spots to win for the fifth straight time with a dominant 320 at the annual Marshall County Golf Tournament at Mystic Hills Saturday.
Boys track
Lions win Kouts invite
The Bremen boys track team brought home seven individual firsts and swept all three relays to score a record 184 total points and win the Kouts Invitational Saturday.
Josh Brenneman led the Lions with three individual wins in the long jump and the hurdles races, and he anchored his team’s winning 1600-meter relay. He broke his own Kouts Invitational records in both hurdles events, which he set last season, clocking a 14.68-second time in the 110 hurdles and a 40.3 in the 300 hurdles.

The roar of engines, the smell of race fuel with a hint of popcorn, and a chill in the air filled the Plymouth Speedway on opening night Friday.
It was an exciting night of racing that saw four drivers at the winner’s podium in the Outlaw Late Model, Late Model, Street Stock and Hornet classes.
April 27th
NAPPANEE — Plymouth and NorthWood entered Friday’s softball game in Nappanee both looking for their first win in conference play this season.
The Lady Pilgrims struck early and often to make sure they would be the ones leaving with that win, needing only five innings to down the Lady Panthers by an 11-0 count.
PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth bats found a way to win at the end and benefited from a good pitching performance by Jordan Scheetz once again in a 5-4 victory over the visiting NorthWood Panthers Friday night.
Scheetz rebounded from a shaky start to retire 16 straight Panthers in the victory, and the Pilgrims plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally past their Northern Lakes Conference foes.
Baseball
Lindsey, Trojans top Culver 4-1
Marc Lindsey struck out eight while surrendering just three hits in a complete seven-inning outing, and Triton handed winless Culver a Northern State Conference loss at home in Bourbon Friday night.
BOURBON — Triton High School's girls tennis team will not travel to the DeKalb Invitational Saturday, April 28 as the invite has been cancelled due to a forecast of cold temperatures and rain.
