Ancilla baseball makes tornado relief trip to southern Indiana

DONALDSON — Dylan Martin had just returned to his apartment from school when he and some of his fellow Ancilla College baseball teammates heard reports of bad storms heading for Indiana.
Martin, who grew up in Borden near Henryville in southern Indiana, called home to check on his family. No one answered, so he called his grandmother, who informed him that they were in the midst of the severe weather. As the reports of the devastation reached him, Martin felt helpless when he learned that several of his friends and neighbors had lost their homes.

Coughlin, Ferns, Caruth, Jones a few to look for as All-Star race hits Plymouth Speedway

PLYMOUTH — Rookie of the Year Cody Coughlin, defending USAC Mopar D1 Midget Series champion 16-year-old Taylor Ferns and her Lorz Motorsports teammate, Nate Caruth will compete against defending 2011 JEGS/CRA All-Star Tour champion Erik Jones and 30 other drivers at the “Eric Saunders, I Can, I Will 100” this weekend when the series kicks off at the Plymouth Speedway Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Pilgrims lose close contest with Logansport, 8-6

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth baseball team lost its second straight game last night, but it wasn’t because the effort wasn’t there.
After getting down six runs in the first two innings the Pilgrims started to chip away at the Logansport lead but just couldn’t get that one timely hit that could turn the tables in their favor, ultimately losing 8-6.

Plymouth nips NorthWood, 3-2

PLYMOUTH — With so much on the line, it was an emotional win, and one the Lady Pilgrims needed badly.
As Plymouth and NorthWood players surrounded the No. 1 singles court, Kelly Hoeffler clinched her third set over Kennedy Walter, and with it the Pilgrims claimed a narrow 3-2 win over visiting Northern Lakes Conference foe NorthWood at Centennial Park Thursday.

Plymouth competes at Goshen 3-way
Plymouth’s boys track team fell to a dominant Northridge squad and host Goshen in a three-way Northern Lakes Conference meet on the road Thursday.
Dan Samuelson won the discus throw and finished second in the shot put, while Adam Lacefield was second in the discus, Michael Hartman finished second in the 200-meter dash, Mason Reed was third in the 400, and Matt Lee was third in the 800 for the Pilgrims.
