PLYMOUTH — Sometimes your best just isn’t enough.
That seemed to be the case for the John Glenn Falcons Saturday night as they lost a hard-fought battle with Mishawaka Marian, 61-56, the IHSAA Class 3A Sectional 19 Championship at Plymouth.
“We executed every part of what we wanted to execute,” said Glenn head coach Travis Hannah. “We just fell a little short tonight, and sometimes that happens.”
SYRACUSE — It’s been a long time coming for the Plymouth High School gymnastics team to place third or better at the sectional level and advance to the regional round of the IHSAA gymnastics state tournament.
So long in fact that two members of that 2006 team, Dani Ramos and Dani McPherron, are now assistant coaches for the Pilgrims. After Saturday, those two can look forward to now having been both a gymnast and a coach at the regional level.
Culver Military Academy goalie Daniel Gaynor recorded 22 saves as CMA shut out Carmel Gold 3-0 in Class 5A state hockey tournament play at the Ice Box in South Bend Sunday.
The Eagles advance to the 5A championship against Columbus at the Pepsi Coliseum in Indianapolis Sunday, March 11 at 1:30 p.m.
Ryan Gandy, Kyle Bartelman and Michael Heidkamp all scored goals for CMA in Sunday’s win.

PLYMOUTH — Friday’s Class 3A Sectional semifinals were both decided at the outset.
John Glenn jumped out to a 31-19 halftime lead and coasted to an eventual 54-40 win over Northern State Conference foe Jimtown in the early game, while Marian knocked down its first five shots — including 4 of 4 from deep — and rode a 36-12 start to a 71-54 victory over the host Pilgrims in the nightcap.

BOURBON — Triton’s boys basketball team needed some sort of in-game spark against an inspired Culver Community squad Friday.
A couple of key adjustments served the purpose.
Moved from a wing to the point against Culver’s active 2-3 zone, Triton’s Clay Yeo fired in a game-high 23 points, while defensively the 6-foot-6 junior locked down on Culver leading scorer Trent Elliott in the second half to lead the Trojans to a 46-41 come-from-behind Class A Sectional 51 semifinal win at The Trojan Trench.
TOPEKA — Bremen advanced to the Class 2A Boys Basketball Sectional final for the second year in a row with a 74-59 win over Fremont Friday.
The Lions play host and defending sectional champion Westview tonight at 7 p.m.
Jacob Box led three Lions in double figures with a game-high 18 points, followed closely by Ethan Pike with 17 points. Ben Hueni chipped in 14 points for the Lions.

Plymouth students show their school spirit as the Pilgrims perform a pregame ritual at Plymouth's Sectional 19 boys basketball game against Culver Military at The Rock Wednesday.

PLYMOUTH — It wasn’t that long ago that the Pilgrims took a lopsided regular-season win over Culver Military.
While that Valentine’s Day victory must have still been fresh in Plymouth’s mind in its sectional opener Wednesday, the Pilgrims certainly didn’t seem to be looking past CMA as they handed the Eagles another lopsided loss in much the same fashion, 51-29 in a Sectional 19 quarterfinal at The Rock.
BOURBON — Westville’s seniors edged out Argos’ sophomores in Class A Boys Basketball Sectional 51 crunch time — barely.
Westville senior Glen Cole’s old-fashioned 3-point play with 1:50 left in the game put the Blackhawks up for good, and the Dragons missed three chances to draw even in the final 30 seconds as Westville escaped with a 46-44 opening-round win at Triton’s Trojan Trench Wednesday.
