Triton’s Clay Yeo put up a combined 61 points to set the program’s all-time scoring record at the Trojans’ home Class A regional Saturday. This is the third time Yeo has earned the Athlete of the Week award this season after setting new single-season and game scoring records for the team.
Plymouth sophomore Nicky Davis led the Lady Pilgrims in the all around with a 13th-place overall finish at the Valparaiso Gymnastics Regional Saturday. It was Davis’ second trip to the meet after advancing individually as a freshman.
BOURBON — Clay Yeo got the record, but the Trojans fell short of a repeat regional championship.
Yeo’s driving layup from the lane with 1:22 left in regulation secured him Triton’s all-time scoring record, but when Davis Rao buried a 3 from the wing on the other end, the announcement was drown out by the Canterbury fans.
Rao’s triple sparked an 8-0 run as Kai Foday knocked down a big one-and-one with 28 seconds on the clock to knot the game up at 48-all and force overtime, and the 6-3 forward followed up with an overtime-opening trey of his own to put the Cavaliers up 51-48.
VALPARAISO — Plymouth placed sixth against a field loaded with top-ranked talent as the Lady Pilgrims finished out their season at the Valparaiso Gymnastics Regional Friday night.
No. 1 Valpo won the meet with a 113.9 score and second-ranked Portage placed second with a 110.375 as the two teams to advance to the state finals, while 10th-ranked Angola was third with a 106.150, No. 6 Chesterton finished fourth with a 105.450, ninth-ranked DeKalb was fifth with a 104.6, and Plymouth put up 89.5 points.
INDIANAPOLIS — Culver Military’ Academy’s hockey team added to the Eagles’ legacy with the school’s 22nd Indiana High School Hockey Association Class 5A championship Sunday afternoon.
CMA defeated the Columbus Icemen by a convincing 6-1 score in the Pepsi Coliseum for the repeat state title and its 40th win of the season, a new record for wins by any Culver hockey team.
“It has been a very gratifying year with these players,” said coach Jeff Badalich. “They have worked so hard, and they closed it out with another state championship and 40 wins.”
