HAMLET â€” Argosâ€™ girls basketball team opened pregame warm-ups and broke the pre-tipoff huddle with one word â€” intensity.
The Dragons promptly fired off a 25-4 game-opening spree and led by double figures the rest of the way in a 60-36 Class A Sectional 51 first-round win over South Central at Oregon-Davis Tuesday.
Argos returns to The Den Friday for a semifinal tussle with defending champion Triton at 6:30 p.m. First-round play continues tonight with host OD taking on Culver Community at 6:30 p.m. with Marquette and Westville to follow.
Holmquest closes career at Mishawaka Regional
Plymouth senior Alayna Holmquest closed out her high school career with a disappointing 15th-place finish at the Mishawaka Girls Diving Regional Tuesday.
Holmquest scored a 214.3 to fall short of a top eight finish and state berth at the meet.
Khalela El-Naggar of Valparaiso won the competition with a score of 411.6.
Holmquest advanced to the Mishawaka Regional after finishing second at the Warsaw Sectional Saturday with a score of 274.1.

As the 37th Annual IHSAA Girls Basketball State Tournament gets under way tonight, several young teams take the field in Sectional 19 play at New Prairie, while a pair of surging players take the court in Sectional 35 play at Westview, and a Class A field containing three state-ranked squads will match up in Sectional 51 play at Oregon-Davis.

Argos' Cohagan, Ewing advance at regional
The Argos girls bowling team competed in the Michigan City Regional on Saturday.
The team finished in 10th place with a score of 2,034.
Competing for the girls were Brittani Brown, Liz Hack, Jina Ewing, Abby Cohagan, Jamie Ewing, and Chelsea Bradley.
Jamie Ewing and Cohagan will advance in singles play to the Fort Wayne Semistate this Saturday at Pro Bowl West. Ewing shot a 524 to finish 10th and advance out of regional, while Cohagan shot a 498 to advance in 15th place.
Plymouthâ€™s Joe Knapp scored 10 points with five rebounds, three steals and four assists running the point in a win over New Prairie Saturday.
Culver Girls Academyâ€™s Lauryn Robinson earned firsts in four different events to help lead the Lady Eagles to the team championship at the Warsaw Swim Sectional Saturday.
ROCHESTER â€” Coming into Saturdayâ€™s Rochester Wrestling Regional with a No. 2 state ranking, Abraham Hall was on a mission to prove himself.
The Bremen senior delivered a message that he was up to his Indianamat.com rating, earning a heavyweight championship with a 2-0 victory over Pennâ€™s Kade Maggert.
